It should be pretty obvious to anyone familiar with the “Fast and Furious” franchise that the next installment is going to be very different. Between the death of Paul Walker and other events that have transpired behind the scenes, the new film could actually have a very different tone than what we’re used to, and while most fans are optimistic for the future of the franchise and they are confident that Vin Diesel and the rest of the crew will handle the film in the best way possible, there are also some more skeptical voices claiming that the film could be a disaster if certain points about it are not handled appropriately.
And while we don’t really have much in the way of official information about the production, there are plenty of rumors allegedly coming from behind the scenes, as well as discussions involving people attached to the franchise. As a recent example of that, Jordana Brewster was recently asked about her plans for the next installment. And while the actress seemed open to the idea of taking part in “Fast and Furious 8”, she was apparently not very certain about whether or not the producers actually see things the same way.
According to her, things can go both ways at the moment and it’s not entirely clear what the producers are planning to do with her character right now. She believes that Mia Toretto still has her place in the story, but things have obviously changed now and the writers could decide to take the plot in a different direction, one that does not call for her.
We have been hearing various rumors about major changes coming up in the plot, so it’s possible that the new story will steer things away from the character of Mia. If that happens though, then hopefully the next installment will also feature a sufficient amount of brand new characters to fill the void. If the producers are planning to continue the story with the same cast, only taking roles away from time to time, this could have some worrying implications – such as the possibility that they are looking to bring the story to an end, either with “Fast and Furious 8” or with the next film in the series.
For what it’s worth, Vin Diesel seems to have a lot of determination to continue this series in the best way possible and to give his fans the kind of sequel that they have been hoping for. After the disappointing news about Paul Walker’s passing, some reassurance that the franchise isn’t going anywhere and that the people behind it are taking it seriously would definitely be great news for fans.
The only thing we know in this regard are some vague claims from Vin Diesel about a possible trilogy starting with “Fast and Furious 8”, bringing the total number of films in the franchise to ten. In that case, there will be new films for quite some time, but let’s not forget that this is not an officially confirmed idea.
Many are currently suspecting that the performance of the next film will determine whether there is any merit in this idea or if the franchise should be put to rest. The last film did very well, despite the problems with its production, but some seem to believe that this was mostly because fans wanted to pay tribute to the late Paul Walker by going to see the film. There isn’t really any way to know for sure, although responses to the film were mostly positive and it’s success wasn’t only based on ticket sales.
