‘Extant’ Season 3 Now a Goner as CBS Puts an End to the Series After Season 2!

When “Extant” debuted in CBS last year, it showed a lofty promise and the star-studded cast seemed to indicate that the TV show would probably be a big winner for CBS. But despite Halle Berry and the other stars of the TV series, the major success that was expected of the TV show did not happen, notes Cinema Blend.

The TV series earned positive reviews during its onset but as Season 1 wore on, the problems with its narrative have started to become obvious. CBS took matters into its own hands by completely overhauling the scripted drama and also signing up Jeffrey Dean Morgan for Season 2.

Despite the efforts of CBS, the ratings of “Extant” were still underwhelming. While such may get a reprieve from other networks, it simply does not work for CBS. Even the presence of Halle Berry and Steven Spielberg, whose Amblin TV also co-produced the show, were not enough to convince the network of another renewal. The ratings have spoken so it was time to decide based on what the viewers want and not on what the network thinks the viewers want.

While fans of “Extant” will surely miss the series, they are also aware of the fact that the TV show was never critically-acclaimed enough to last on CBS over the long haul.

If reworking the main plot of the show and signing on new actors were not enough to entice viewers, “Extant” was never going to be able to grow over the long term.
