General Motors has officially unveiled the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro last month in Detroit, Michigan with pride and confidence that the sixth generation muscle car would maintain the top spot in the sports car segment when it hits American car dealerships towards the end of 2015.
The American carmaker picked the right event and opportunity to unravel the European model of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro by showcasing it at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed that ran from June 26 to 28 at the United Kingdom, where it brushed elbows with some of the latest race and muscle cars that other major car manufacturers have to offer now and in the near future.
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will hit the European car dealerships in spring of next year but unlike its North American counterpart which shall have three engine versions, the Euro-spec model will come with two engine variants, reports World Car Fans.
It will come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that exudes maximum strength of 205 kW and 295 pound-feet of torque. It shall also be complemented by an eight-speed automatic transmission that will allow it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in approximately six seconds. This particular engine will ensure consumption of fewer than eight liters of fuel per 100 kilometers of road coverage.
There is also the more muscular 6.2-liter V8 engine that exudes maximum power of 339 kW and 455 pound-feet of torque which is paired with either a six-speed manual or an optional eight-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.
Chevrolet has also confirmed that the 2016 European model of the Camaro will also feature LED daytime running lights and 20-inch aluminum wheels. It shall also have a Bose audio system and a MyLink infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen display.
Convertible version
Meanwhile, GM has also unveiled in the US the convertible edition of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, which according to CTV News of Canada, is the only car in its class to offer an advanced functioning, fully automatic, locking, and electro-hydraulic soft-top.
The good thing about the 2016 Camaro’s convertible roofing is that the driver can actually remotely close the roof even when driving at speeds of up to 48 kilometers per hour using the car’s electronic key fob.
And when it is an open-top, the roof will fold completely beneath the car’s beltline under a hard cover that hides the canvas when fully folded. Despite having a canvas roofing, it will still have better soundproofing inside the cabin thus reducing road and wind noise because it will be using multilayer fabric. When the roof is back on, the top actually creates a roofline that faithfully resembles the shape of the hardtop coupe version of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.
Faster and nimble driving experience
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro has an all-new lighter architecture and broader powertrain range in all of its six all-new combinations allowing for a faster and more nimble driving experience
According to GM spokesman Monte Doran, the sports car promises to deliver excellent levels of performance, technology, and design refinements that will enable it to maintain its leadership in the sports car segment, which the company painstakingly worked hard for and maintained in the last five years.
Mark Reuss, GM executive vice president of product development, disclosed that redesigning the Camaro is both a thrilling and challenging experience for the company. But they were really inspired to come up and offer something more to Camaro enthusiasts.
