“The Mentalist” has aired its series finale on CBS on February 18, episode 13 of Season 7, but the euphoria of its very good ending has yet to die down among viewers and fans that have followed the show for the last seven years.
The wedding of the show’s main characters Patrick Jane, played by Simon Baker, and Teresa Lisbon, played by Robin Tunney, was the icing to “The Mentalist” cake. It was the perfect ending to the American police procedural TV series.
More than the happy ending to “The Mentalist” and its usually intriguing story for each episode, fans of the TV series should be happy to know that the show has gotten three nominations for the People’s Choice Awards for 2015 held at the start of the year.
The show itself was nominated for Favorite TV Crime Drama in 2015. Simon Baker got nominated for Favorite Crime Drama TV Actor while Robin Tunney was nominated for Favorite Crime Drama TV Actress.
While none from the three nominations eventually won, the fact that “The Mentalist” got three selections only mean that it has a wide following, which is all but a testament to the massive fan base that the show has established for nearly seven years.
A perfect ending for a good beginning
The show was a previous winner of the People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama in 2009, so the nomination on its final season was just a fitting recognition for the show’s good run on the small screen.
“The Mentalist” first hit the airwaves when it premiered on September 23, 2008 and over the span of nearly seven years and seven seasons, it has aired a total of 151 episodes.
The TV series is about former psychic Patrick Jane, who also serves as a consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation. While he is not a law enforcer per se, Jane uses his highly observational skills he previously used in reading people’s minds to solve crimes and murders.
However, the real reason why Patrick wants to involve himself with law enforcement is to be able to track down the serial killer known as Red John, who brutally murdered his wife and daughter.
As “The Mentalist” episodes began to unravel, it was shown that Patrick’s main focus was cases that involved Red John or Red John copycats. He has downplayed the supernatural aspects of his skills by saying that there is no such thing as psychic. But he has developed his skills in cold reading, hypnosis, picking pockets, and mind-reading.
It was in the course of his work that he met law enforcer Teresa Lisbon whom he got the opportunity to work with in solving murder mysteries and eventually fell in love with. Their marriage in the series finale is the perfect ending to the show’s good beginning, notes TV Fanatic.
And don’t forget! The Mentalist won the 2013 Monte Carlo Television Festival Golden Nymph Award for Most Watched Drama Series IN THE WORLD! 56 Million viewers worldwide! Just phenomenal, if you let it sink in. For some reason, this is always left out of the awards mentions for the show. It was a big deal and there are pictures of Robin accepting the award for the show in Monte Carlo that year. So proud of our show!
