Apple iPod Touch 6th Generation May Be Launched from September 2015 Onwards

Apple has obviously put in the backburner the formal launching of its iPod Touch 6th Generation.

The American tech company has its focus on the Apple Watch which will be launching in just a matter of hours, as well as the update to its current flagship smartphones – the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus.

Two other devices that are expected to come from Apple outside of the iPod Touch 6th Generation are the rumored iPad Pro, which latest reports suggest would come out in September, and the MacBook Air with Retina display.

In other words, five devices are due from Apple this year and the iPod Touch 6th Generation is perhaps the fifth priority of them all. If the company’s launching patterns are to be the basis, then there is a possibility that the iPod Touch 6 may be launched from September 2015 onwards.

Supply issue delays

A few days ago, reports came out that the production of the rumored larger iPad, the Apple iPad Pro, has been delayed from the first half of this year to the third quarter of this year due to supply issues, particularly the larger display panels, notes the Christian Post.

It now appears that the iPod Touch 6 is experiencing the same kind of delay because of supply issues.

However, there are also other rumors that the company is delaying the release of the music and video player device because Apple believes that there is hardly a niche market for the iPod Touch 6 as its functions are pretty much part of the features of the iPhones and iPads.

Rumors also indicate that the company thinks that unless a suitable niche market for its next gen music and video player is established, it’s not worth releasing the iPod Touch 6 at all.

Specifications and features

But if the initial leaked information and images of the next gen iPod Touch since last year are to be the basis, it is clear that Apple is in the thick of the development of the music and video player device.

Initial reports have it that the Apple iPod Touch 6th generation would come out in two variants – the 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch display screens. It will also come in six different colors including silver, pink, red, blue, space grey, and yellow.

The device will have 1GB of ROM but can be upgraded to as much as 128GB through a microSD card.

In terms of specifications, the Apple iPod Touch 6 will reportedly come out with an iOS 8.1.3 operating system, larger display, longer battery life, improved security features that include Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and also the Apple Pay.

The iPod Touch 6 will have an 8-megapixel iSight camera and shall also be waterproof just like the Apple Watch. It shall also be compatible with the iWatch.

Apple iPod Touch 6G

Most of all, the iPod Touch 6th Generation would have a retail price of anywhere from $250 to $300, depending on the variant. Apple has yet to confirm all these features, specifications, and price for the iPod Touch 6 though.

  1. I love my iPod touch 5th generation. I would def buy the 6th. I believe there is a niche for them as everyone doesn’t own an iPhone and those of us who do don’t always like to use it as a dedicated music player. I hate to run the battery down on my phone listening to music b/c I use my iPod a lot. I prefer to have 2 separate devices and you can’t carry an iPad in your pocket.
