She’s certainly in a position to be “exploited” for the story’s purposes right now, and she’s also in a vulnerable spot due to her newborn, so the writers technically have a lot of freedom if they wanted to do something to her.
On the other hand, there might be something coming up for one of the “background” characters of the show who have been getting less attention lately. There are several cast members who were not in the spotlight so often towards the end of season 2, and there could be something planned for them specifically.
The developments with Anika would actually be a great way to distract everyone if that’s the case.
