The gameplay for all three games is pretty much similar to one another; set in a third-person perspective specifically with an over-the-shoulder point of view, the player’s party consists of their player character and up to three non-player character companions.
Players can also customize their own character with options to modify its gender, race whether it will be a human, an elf, or a dwarf, as well as its character class whether it is a warrior, a rogue, or a mage.
The first two games of the franchise were released in Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Mac OS X. The third entry was release in the same platforms as the first two but with the addition of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but as BioWare announced earlier this year, the upcoming as well as all future DLCs of the game shall no longer be available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gaming platforms anymore.
The series has been used widely by a variety of other media such as books, anime films, tabletop games, and comics. The “Dragon Age” series has also spawned spin-off games such as “Dragon Age Legends” for Facebook platform, “Dragon Age Journeys” for Flash, and “House of Dragon Age” for mobile users.
The 2nd game was not well received. The 3rd game has been critiqued for pushing a social agenda. The only flawless and critically acclaimed one was the first game.
