When “Frozen” came out in 2013, it was an unexpected hit, and a pleasant surprise to animation lovers around the world. Even though Disney put quite a lot of work into the film and did a good job promoting it, there still weren’t any particularly high expectations about its success. Once Disney saw the results, rumors immediately started spreading about a possible sequel – and lately, information about the sequel to the hit animation has been leaking to the public in various forms. The sequel hasn’t been announced officially yet, but at this point, with the amount of information that has poured out from behind the scenes, Disney might as well come out and reveal it themselves.
It’s not known what kind of release date Disney are aiming for yet, although the studio seems to have quite a lot on their plate right now, and it’s likely that production of “Frozen 2” is not given a very high priority. There was speculation that the new film will be called “Frozen 2: Strange Magic”, which started after Disney registered several domains for that name. The information quickly spread, and fans have been discussing the possibility that this is “Frozen 2”.
However, Disney have denied those rumors, claiming that “Strange Magic” is actually a separate production, not related to “Frozen” in any way, although its story is still styled like a fairy tale. “Strange Magic” will apparently focus more on musical numbers, and it’s not known when the film is going to be released.
Fans of the film will still get something to keep them entertained while they’re waiting for the sequel though, as Disney are preparing a short titled “Frozen Fever” that’s about to come out in spring 2015. While this won’t be a major release of any sort, it should still offer a few entertaining minutes of fresh animation and entertaining scenes. Rumors have it that it could actually give an insight into the future of the series, with possible hints about the plot of “Frozen 2”. It won’t be too far out of Disney’s style to do something like this, although of course they likely won’t give away any major plot details.
Nothing is known about the potential cast or crew of the new film yet, as Disney haven’t posted any public recruitment announcements, nor have any leaks come out from the studio. This could indicate that the production hasn’t entered a serious stage yet, or it could mean that Disney are trying to be more secretive with the project. Given the way they released the original “Frozen”, this may not be out of the question, so it will be interesting to see what the studio announces when they release “Frozen Fever” in a few months.
