Walt Disney Co. confirmed ‘Frozen 2’ during its annual shareholders meeting last week held in San Francisco, California.
While no release date has yet been announced regarding the sequel of the most successful animated film from Disney in recent years, John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios, disclosed that film Directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have a great idea for the film as they take fans back to Arendelle, notes Variety.
It was Lasseter who made the official announcement about “Frozen 2” and he was accompanied by Walt Disney Co. chief Bob Iger and Josh Gad, who voiced Olaf in the first film and shall be back again for “Frozen 2.”
But there are still no specific details as regards “Frozen 2” and Walt Disney would most likely wait it out until the movie is about to be wrapped up.
Lee and Buck are currently developing “Frozen 2” with producer Peter Del Vecho for Walt Disney Animation Studios, which is basically the same team behind the Oscar-winning “
Frozen” that won the Best Animated Feature during the 2014 Academy Awards.
Expected sequel
With its worldwide box-office haul of $1.3 billion, the sequel to “Frozen” came no longer as a surprise. Not only were the fans, mostly the kids, are looking forward to it, “Frozen 2” is a sound business venture that would definitely capitalize on the moneymaking power of its predecessor when it was officially released to theaters on November 22, 2013.
In addition to its superb performance at the tills, “Frozen” became a profitable merchandising instrument. It has likewise broken sales records on homevideo at Disney’s stores or outlets.
More than anything, “Frozen” also helped reinvigorate the average performance and results of Walt Disney Animation Studios for the past couple of years.
‘Frozen Fever’ for now
While fans are still waiting for “Frozen 2,” they would be happy to know that the short animated feature film “Frozen Fever” is now on theaters as an add-on to Disney’s live adaptation of “Cinderella” which began hitting theaters on March 13.
“Frozen Fever” has reunited the characters and songwriters of “Frozen” and the reunion would further continue with “Frozen 2.”
The same voice actors will be back for “Frozen 2” as much as they did in “Frozen Fever.” In addition to Josh Gad, Idina Menzel will do the voice for Elsa, Kristen Bell for Anna, Jonathan Groff for Kristoff, along with the rest of the previous characters with possibly new additions too.
Lasseter revealed that the Walt Disney team have enjoyed working on “Frozen Fever” with the film’s great characters and he said that there will be more of the same on “Frozen 2.” He also added that he and the whole Walt Disney Co. are already excited about “Frozen 2,” as much as the movie’s throngs of fans worldwide.
