When “Criminal Minds” aired its fall finale episode last year, it left with a whopper of a cliffhanger as Thomas Gibson’s Hotch came to the station to tell Kristen Vangsness’ Garcia that they have had a huge break in The Dirty Dozen case.
Hotch also tells Garcia that she may be able to go home because they think that they have a way to bring down the network of hitmen that put a hit on her. Garcia was put under the witness protection program because of the attempt by The Dirty Dozen to kill her off.
Well, “Criminal Minds” fans were surely not disappointed with how things went down for the midseason premiere of the police procedural drama TV series on January 13.
The episode, titled “Entropy,” centered on a date with a murderer, and it all took place in a restaurant with Matthew Gray Gubler’s Reid and a Black Widow hit woman named Cat Adams.
The episode began with Reid, who just returned after spending some time with his mom, entering the restaurant and meeting Cat, played by guest star Aubrey Plaza.
Initially, fans were led to believe that this was the first date of the two, but it quickly comes clear that it was a date with an underlying agenda.
Reid was playing the part of a married man, and that the date is actually a negotiation. He was contracting Cat to kill his pregnant wife.
Prior to this, the BAU had apprehended two of the four hit men, as well as the IT genius nicknamed ‘The Snowman’ who they had forced to act as their tech organizer.
Fans loved the exchange of wit between Gubler’s and Plaza’s characters. Her character was written with the right amount of being psychotic, smart, and charismatic.
Cat knew from the start where the members of BAU were sitting around the restaurant, and that there were agents waiting outside. Yet she remained confident and didn’t seem worried at all.
More importantly, the episode gave fans a lot of Spencer Reid. His game was just spot-on in this episode. To be believable, though, he had to share a piece of him with Cat.
Fans learn that his mother has an early onset dementia, probably Alzheimer’s, and he’s doesn’t know if he will inherit it.
Although, he was somehow relieved that he didn’t inherit his mother’s schizophrenia.
The episode got viewers at the edge of their seat as the dinner date became a toss-up of who had the upper hand in the situation.
First it was Cat who got the upper hand thinking that she has willingly entangled herself into Reid’s trap. It then changes to BAU’s favor when the hit woman was led to believe that she had flushed out all the BAU agents.
Cat’s big revelation though was that there were bombs set up beneath the restaurant endangering lives of the people inside.
With the help of Shemar Moore’s Derek Morgan and Aisha Tyler’s Tara Lewis, BAU was able to discover that the bomber is actually a woman who was sitting alone with her cell phone at a table.
Finally, it was a success for Reid as he was able to stop the hit woman from detonating a bomb inside of a crowded restaurant.
By the episode’s end, Cat ends up behind bars but leaves a lasting impression on Reid who says that in 20 years, he might not even remember her at all threatening him about the signs of eventual memory loss.
The mid-season premiere had fans saying that it was probably one of, if not the best episode of the CBS crime drama this current season. Fans are already looking forward to episode 12.
CBS just released the official synopsis for the upcoming episode and it sounds very interesting as BAU’s latest case has them tracking down an UnSub that’s been killing people in public places.
The episode, titled “Drive,” has members of the BAU investigating a murderer who leaves victims in public places throughout Boston.
