‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 3 Airs Double Episodes in Preparation for Crossover Event Special with Law & Order: SVU

The American police procedural drama TV series “Chicago P.D.” on NBC aired double episodes on October 28, much to the delight of its millions of fans.

Episode 5 titled “Climbing Into Bed,” and Episode 6 titled “You Never Know Who’s Who” were aired back-to-back on Wednesday night and generated 6.1 million viewers and a 1.5 rating, which is the TV show’s best since its Season 3 premiere on September 30, notes TV Line.

It was a remarkable performance for the NBC TV series considering that it was aired on the same day as the GOP debate that drew 14 million viewers on CNBC and the telecast of the Game 2 of the World Series between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets aired on Fox, which drew 13.7 million viewers.

The “Chicago P.D.” double dose is meant for the show to catch up for the planned crossover event special slated to happen early next year with another popular American police drama TV series on NBC, “Law & Order: SVU,” cites the Christian Post.

While “Chicago P.D.” tries to catch up, NBC, on the other hand, has given the “Law & Order: SVU” starring Mariska Hargitay, a break so that the two TV series will be in sync in episode count and storyline.

NBC has yet to announce the schedule of the crossover special event of “Chicago P.D.” and “Law & Order: SVU” early next year.

Shocking revelations

As usual, the back-to-back episodes of “Chicago P.D.” were full of shocking revelations, mind-blowing twists and turns, as well as intense moments.

Police Officer Adam Ruzek, played by Patrick John Flueger, is caught in a dilemma after a botched undercover job and he was subsequently scrutinized by new Street Deputy Emma Crowley, played by guest star Barbara Eve Harris. Ruzek’s fate in the department lies solely on the hands of Crowley now.

Meanwhile, Ruzek’s romantic partner Kim Burgess, played by Marina Squerciati, gets paired temporarily with Police Officer Joseph Price, played by Paul Schulze. After answering a suspicious call, their investigation leads them to the discovery of a dead man locked inside an SUV.

They were able to determine the identity of the victim through Greg ‘Mouse’ Gerwitz, played by Samuel Caleb Hunt, who said that the deceased is a businessman who owns a security company.

But there were more to the discovery on the identity of the victims and the team was thrown into a very interesting case.

Taking their relationship to the next level

Meanwhile, the double episodes also had fans of the TV series elated because ‘Linstead’ moved up to the next level in their relationship

‘Linstead’ is the combination of Detective Erin Lindsay, played by Sophia Bush, and Detective Jay Halstead, played by Jesse Lee Soffer.

During the premiere episode of Season 3 of “Chicago P.D.” on September 30, fans were quite excited with the sight that the two had some sort of reunion, not of the romantic kind, but as part of the call of their duties as police officers.

Fans love nothing but a romantic reunion or rekindling of the relationship between Lindsay and Halstead and it seems that the two characters have started moving towards that direction. The showrunners apparently recognize that the relationship of ‘Linstead’ is an important juice of the main plot.

Critics believe that it is the journey of Lindsay and Halstead over time that enables viewers to relate and care about them and the romance between them is just one component of that.

They are two of the most popular, if not the most popular characters of “Chicago P.D.” They do care about each other so much so that one is actually willing to put his or her life for the other just like what Erin did in the premiere episode.
