‘Castle’ Season 9 Rumors Start Swirling Again as Producers are Reportedly in Serious Discussion with Nathan Fillion

It is quite ironic that most TV series that have abruptly ended or finished earlier than expected almost always become trending topics on the internet.

One of those which have become internet fodder over the last few months is the American crime drama TV series “Castle” which most fans believe, abruptly ended in May this year with its Season 8 finale.

Actually, weeks before the Season 8 finale of “Castle,” there have been reports saying that the TV series was already renewed by the network for a ninth season minus its female lead star Stana Katic, who plays Kate Beckett in the show.

Accordingly, the actress was not able to cut a good deal with the producers of the popular TV series so Season 8 was as far as she goes. In addition, Tamala Jones also did not get a renewal from the producers for Season 9 of “Castle.”

The rest of the cast, including Nathan Fillion, who plays Rick Castle, Molly Quinn, Toks Olagundoye, Susan Sullivan, Seamus Dever, and Jon Huertas were reportedly given one-year contract renewals by the producers.

Changing its mind

However, one week before the Season 8 finale of “Castle” aired on ABC, the network changed its mind and decided that there would be no more Season 9 for the show.

Apparently, the network had heard of all the social media bashings and the complaints about the producers not signing up Stana Katic for a ninth season and the decision shall ultimately spell the doom for the show. So rather than gamble on something out of the ordinary, the network decided to just finish the show after Season 8.

As a result, the executive producers had to scramble to come up with an improvised episode to show that “Castle” would have a happy ending.

So keen viewers would have noticed that after the LokSat mystery was solved during the Season 8 finale episode, there was a time jump of seven years to show that Rick Castle and Kate Beckett, were already enjoying their happily ever after as a happily married couple along with their three kids.

Stirring things up a bit

However, there are now reports saying that the producers of “Castle” have recently spoken to actor Nathan Fillion and rumors are saying that they are in serious discussion for a possible one more extension season for the TV series.

While those remain as speculations at this time, it somehow stirred things a bit on a possible Season 9 of “Castle,” reports Fab News.

From the network’s standpoint, however, they would actually look bad if they decide to air a Season 9 of “Castle” when in fact, the Season 8 finale drew up a very happy ending for Rick Castle and Kate Beckett.

Meanwhile, following the non-renewal of Stana Katic’s contract in “Castle,” there had been speculations saying that it was not the contract negotiations that caused her to leave the show. The actress was supposedly fired from the TV series.

Katic’s exit from the show was announced on April 18 and on May 12, ABC declared that season 9 was canceled. The Season 8 finale aired on May 16 and showed Castle and Beckett raising their three children in a flash forward.

When asked about the announcements, network president Channing Dungey said that it’s a case where there are things running on two parallel tracks.

Castle Season 7

He explained that they were always very upfront with the studio and the producers about the possibility that they might not be bringing the show back for Season 9. But the studio has to do what they need to do in order to prepare for the possibility of a Season 9.

A number of fans and viewers of “Castle” got disappointed when their favorite show abruptly ended during its Season 8 finale.
