‘Captain America: Civil War’ Will Feature Plenty of Marvel Superheroes that It will Come Off Almost as an ‘Avengers’ Movie

The third “Captain America” movie will feature a total of 12 Marvel superheroes that it would actually look almost like an “Avengers” movie.

“Captain America: Civil War” is currently filming at this point in time for its May 6, 2016, playdate but it has already been confirmed that in addition to the hero wearing the colors of the star-spangled banner, there will also be 11 other Marvel superhero characters led by Tony Stark and his alter ego Iron Man.

A trailer footage of “Captain America: Civil War” was shown at the just concluded D23 Expo held in Anaheim, California which gave fans a glimpse of the roster of Marvel superheroes in it, including a few Marvel villains too.

The video clip that was shown at D23 Expo actually validated that “Captain America: Civil War” is an “Avengers” movie in everything but the name, cites Wired.

Because aside from Steve Rogers as Captain America, played by Chris Evans, there is Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson, Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie, Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olson, Vision, played by Paul Bethany, Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner, Ant-Man, played by Paul Rudd, and Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman.

Although the trailer also showed the Captain ass-kicking Crossbones, played by Frank Grillo, and also featured Bucky Barnes as The Winter Soldier, played by Sebastian Stan, punching Captain America and telling him he remembers Steve’s mother’s name, the movie was all “Avengers.”

However, the trailer missed out one important Marvel character and it’s no other than Spider-Man. Apparently, the production has yet to film the scene involving Tom Holland so the web-slinging superhero did not make it to the first trailer of “Captain America: Civil War.”

Dividing the Avengers

While the movie is definitely about Captain America and Steve Rogers, and of course Chris Evans, Marvel fans are actually filled with excitement over the prospect of Captain America and Iron Man going head-to-head in the movie, which shall become one, if not the film’s best highlight.

Apparently, the Marvel’s Avengers would be divided on the issue of the Superhero Registration Act. Tony Stark is all open to the idea of superheroes disclosing their identities in public, the way he as Iron Man is doing while Steve Rogers is opposed to the idea.

Heroic Hollywood has just came out with a report by its founder Umberto Gonzalez, who is a Marvel fanatic, that the Avengers will actually be divided in “Captain America: Civil War,” six members for Captain America and only five members for Iron Man.

Team Captain America shall be composed of Captain America, of course, Hawkeye, Falcon. Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, and The Winter Soldier, while Team Iron Man will be made up of Iron Man, The Vision, Spider-Man, Black Widow, and War Machine.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has already confirmed that the Black Panther will be neutral on the issue. It is also noticeable that The Hulk and Thor are not included in the movie.

From the looks of it, Team Iron Man has the seeming advantage but it would be interesting to see how it all goes down in the movie. Considering, however, that it is Captain America’s film, the chances of his team winning over the other is likely.

Phase Two of MCU

“Captain America: Civil War” is part of Phase Two of the Marvel cinematic universe. In fact, Marvel also showed trailers of the upcoming movies “Black Panther” and “Doctor Strange” at D23 Expo even though the latter two films have yet to begin production, notes iO9.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige came on stage at the D23 Expo to talk about “Doctor Strange.” He said that the film would push the boundaries of the Marvel cinematic universe and that the movie will have Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange along with Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The film will hit theaters in November 2016.

  1. Good roundup but Captain America Civil War is not part of MCU Phase 2; it’s the start of Phase 3.
Phase 2 ended with the release of Ant-man.
