‘Bones’ Season 11 Still on its Midseason Break but Fox Renews TV Series for a 12th and Final Season!

Season 11 of the American crime procedural drama TV series “Bones” is still on its midseason break and will only be back on Fox beginning on April 14 but fans and viewers of the popular show got a good news from the network late last month.

While there were concerns previously that Season 11 of “Bones” may be the show’s last, Fox has shut down all those apprehensions by announcing that the TV series is officially renewed for a 12th season, which is going to be the show’s last.

Fox Co-Chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman announced that the network has renewed the long-running procedural drama TV series for a final season which would allow producers to map out a meaningful and satisfying conclusion, notes Return Dates.

Executive producers Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson, in a joint statement, said that they could not be more thrilled to have another season so that they can give “Bones,” its characters, and its fans the end they so richly deserve.

They added that with Season 12 already assured, they can now write the most rewarding Season 11 finale possible. Collier and Peterson said that they hope that the Season 11 final episode will leave fans excited for the final season of “Bones.”

Picking up from its fall finale

“Bones” will pick up from the dramatic events of its fall finale on December 10 with its episode 10 entitled “The Doom in the Boom.”

The upcoming episode 11 entitled “The Death in the Defense” will see Jack Hodgins, played by TJ Thyne, already eight weeks into rehabilitation after the explosion during the fall finale put him into a wheelchair, details the Digital Spy.

The episode will also see Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan, played by Emily Deschanel, and FBI Agent Seely Booth, played by David Boreanaz, work on investigating the death of a public defender with multiple past defendants with motives to kill her.

The 11th episode will also see Hodgins undergoing a painful recuperation period considering that he is someone who is full of life. He is also not the type who would like to be confined in a wheelchair for a long time because he will obviously consider it as a fate worse than death.

A tough phase for Hodgins

In an interview last December, Thyne said that the second half of “Bones” will be the toughest for his character. He said Hodgins would be in denial at first but it would slowly sink into him that he might never walk again.

The actor added that would be the phase in his character where he will undergo the stages of grief.

Dr. Jack was previously known to be a cheerful person. But after the accident, he will be angry and frustrated at the drop of a hat.

Angela Montenegro, played by Michaela Conlin, will have problems dealing with her husband’s grief which is why she will tend to walk on tiptoe around him. It is likely that soon after, depression would set in on Hodgins as he will start pitying himself, and will likely push away his old friends in the Jeffersonian.

The second half will also see forensic anthropologist Dr. Brennan and FBI Special Agent Booth getting tough for the couple.

The two will have to choose who to side with in the depression struggle of Hodgins, whether they support Angela or Dr. Jack because the condition of Hodgins will really have a huge effect for those who worked with him and his wife for a long time.

Showrunner Michael Peterson said that almost all of the colleagues of Hodgins would not be able to stay neutral, especially when they see how Angela is suffering because of Hodgins’ attitude.

One comment

  1. It may be good that season 12 is the last season, because I think the show jumped the shark with Hodgin’s injury. This makes a major change in the dynamics of the show, because it seems more final. The tone of the show could be too much like a soap opera, and too predictable when watching the interaction between Hodgin’s character and the others. Nothing this permanent has ever happened between the core characters of the show, and I am disappointed.
