The current reports that are going around indicate a launch date of 2018 as the earliest possibility, so we probably won’t hear much about this model in some time. However, in a couple of years information should definitely start making its way to the public in one form or another, and we’re excited to see what the new model is going to look like.
Plus, BMW will likely want to start their active marketing as early as possible, so we might get more official information even earlier before 2017. A large part of the success of vehicles in the hybrid section of the market has relied on proper marketing for them, and establishing as much hype as possible.
But for a company like BMW, that should not be much of a problem. They could even ride on the success of Tesla’s own Model X for a while, especially if their car is going to compete with it directly – in that case, both could mutually benefit from each other’s marketing.
…. as long as this new speculated vehicle fully electric (no ICE engine) …. The goal is to have other car manufacturers start building some electric-only vehicles.
They’re definitely not going to get an X5 with hybrid to go against a Model X. This thing with gas and electric would weigh a TON. Plus there is no way this is going 0-60 in 3.5 seconds like a Model X.
