The claims for this update, which is its first visible change since the i3 was launched in 2013; comes soon after the range of the car was boosted through a battery upgrade in the latter half of 2016.This upgrade ended up increasing the battery power of the vehicle from 22kWh to 33kWh, giving it a push forward in its range, from a mere 80 miles to 114 miles.
This arrival of the car is facilitated i3 sales to surge in Europe, making BMW the maker of the best-selling of any electric or plug-in hybrid car in October, crushing competitors like Tesla, Nissan, Renault, and Volkswagen. In all, a sale of 1,656 i3’s was recorded in Europe last month, which was up by 51% year-on-year.
The new model, which went on sale over the summer, also seemed to decrease so-called range anxiety amongst consumers, as the all-electric i3 now widely outsells BMW’s range extender edition, which comprises of a small petrol engine to perform as a generator when the battery goes out.
In a statement given to IBTimes UK, a BMW spokesperson said that BMW has a method of constant development for its cars from unveiling through to complete new model. From time to time some models get engine or styling changes in their lifetime. This is a natural procedure that many other manufacturers also follow. The current BMW i3 more that meets customer expectations and is the best-selling best electric vehicle with more than 60,000 vended globally since unveiling.
