The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons marries partner Todd Spiewak

The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons has married his long-term partner, graphic designer, Todd Spiewak.

The couple, who have been together for 15 years, tied the knot at the iconic Rainbow Rooms in New York on Saturday, May 13.

News of the wedding was first reported by the New York Post’s Page Six, with Parsons later confirming on Instagram as he shared a string of pictures from the happy day.

He also revealed that Melissa McNeely not only planned the big day but also acted as the officiant. Captioning a picture of himself, Spiewak and McNeely he wrote: “She’s our best friend, she was our wedding planner, she was our officiant and she played all three parts brilliantly this past Saturday.”

The couple were married in matching black tuxedos but changed for the reception with Parsons in a dark red velvet jacket and Spiewak in white.

It was back to work for Parsons on Wednesday as he promoted his new Big Bang Theory spin-off, Young Sheldon.

He did make time to gush about the magical celebrations though and confessed that it was “much more fun” than he thought it would be.

Claiming to have had a “fantastic day”, he told Extra at the CBS upfront presentation: “I wasn’t too nervous, [it was] just a lot to organize and I thought, ‘Well, this will be sort of fun … Let’s get through this,’ then it was all fun.”

It seems he might have had a little bit too much fun, as the actor admitted he had stayed up so late he had got ill and has since been put on antibiotics by his doctor.

Notoriously private about his personal life, it was unknown the couple were even engaged let alone planning a wedding.

In recent years there has been intense speculation surrounding the couple’s relationship, with rumours they could be engaged circulating in 2014. In August that year, the National Enquirer wrongly claimed they had decided to wed after Spiewak issued Parsons with an ultimatum.

Insisitng this was not true, the comedy actor took to Instagram where he shared a snap of the happy couple and captioned it: “Me and Todd in 2003. Still very happy today… And NOT engaged! #justFYI #NationalEnquirerMakesS–tUp #duh.”

The Big Bang star did hint that marriage could be in his future though in an interview with The View in 2015. Asked if he would consider tying the knot, he admitted:  “I’m 42 now and so much of my adult life that wasn’t really a possibility or whatever and I’ve grown more interested in the idea and I’m certainly supportive of the notion… [but] my own personal interest in it has never been that high.”

Parsons and Spiewak first met on a blind date in 2002. The pair met at a karaoke bar and Spiewak was singing Cher’s ‘I Found Someone’ as the actor walked in. Clearly, he was right.

Sharing a snap from the night to Instagram, to mark their anniversary last year, Parsons wrote:  “I met this guy (the one with the mic) 14 years ago today and it was the best thing that ever happened to me, no contest.”

jim parsonsThe star cleared up intense speculation about his sexuality in 2012, confirming in an interview with The New York Times that he was in a same-sex relationship while promoting the play ‘Normal Heart’.

The interview did not confirm his partner was Spiewak, but many did suspect this was the case.

A year later they made their first public appearance together at the 9th Annual GLSEN Respect Awards, where they were jointly given an Inspiration Award.

In his acceptance speech, Parsons admitted he didn’t see the “simple” act of love as inspiring, but that he “got” why he had been given the award.

He said: “I’ve never considered myself an activist. I’ve never considered my relationship with Todd to be an act of activism. Rather Simply, it’s an act of love, coffee in the morning, going to work, washing the clothes, taking the dogs [out] — a regular life, boring love.”

Parson’s other fiancee, co-star Mayim Bialik, was one of the Big Bang Theory stars invited along to the nuptials. She may have taken some notes for her and Jim’s big day when their characters tie the knot on screen.

On Thursday’s season finale of the hit comedy, Parson’s character Sheldon got down on one knee and proposed to Amy Fowler, played by Bialik.

Sheldon’s earlier life will be the focus of the spin-off ‘Young Sheldon’, which Parsons has described as an “origin story”. He is signed on to provide the voice-over and executive produce.
