Fans have been waiting to try the new DLC for “Batman: Arkham Knight”, and now that they’ve had a chance to form some opinions about it, the responses aren’t actually that positive. Most people and critics alike seem to have some negative things to say about the content, and even though there are also lots of praises for some of its specific aspects, in the end it looks like the developers didn’t really manage to give their fans what they wanted.
The problem, according to most critics, is that the content feels shallow and too straightforward, and there isn’t any real point in going through it for players who’ve already completed the last installments in the game’s DLC set. And while the DLC does have its redeeming qualities – mostly in the visual department – it’s usually described as mediocre as best and most fans seem to have lost some of their faith in the game.
The design of the new levels is reportedly very similar to what we are already familiar with from the previous levels of the game, including the ability for players to approach problems from multiple sides and levels that have a good degree of verticality. There is also prominent use of gadgets and special equipment in this set of levels, so players who like to be a little more tactical and stealthy should definitely enjoy those new opportunities.
One issue that many people seem to have with the DLC is the length of the levels. As we said above, the content is reportedly shallow and not very interesting to fans, but this could have been compensated with an appropriate length of the levels so that players would at least have a good chance to experience the new additions to the gameplay.
But on the contrary, there are reports that it doesn’t take too long at all to complete these levels and most players should be able to get through them without too much trouble. This is also relevant for the difficulty level of the new content, as it’s reportedly not that challenging at all and the levels require mostly a basic approach to get through.
In the end, the common sentiment towards this DLC is that it doesn’t manage to expand the core game in any meaningful way, and thus it didn’t quite live up to the expectations of fans who’ve been with the game since it came out. At this point, fans want to see a little extra content thrown in that will actually give them something new to think about and new ways to complete their goals, but instead they’re met with more of the same. Add to that the fact that the levels of the original game itself had their own fair share of problems, and it’s clear why some fans are feeling disappointed by what the new DLC has to offer. With that in mind, the developers of the game should be very careful with their future releases as the community’s trust in them is starting to get eroded.
This was already noticeable with the original release of the game for the PC, as it had various issues on the technological side and this was met with widespread disapproval from the community. Gamers were so displeased with the title that it had to be pulled from the shelves until the developers could address its issues, and in the end fans lost a lot of trust in both the franchise as well as the studio.
