‘Avatar 2’ Director James Cameron Currently Focusing on Filming of Movie’s Oceanographic Exploration Similar to ‘Titanic’

Critically-acclaimed producer, writer and director James Cameron wants nothing but the best for “Avatar 2” and that is why he is not pressured into releasing the sequel to the most successful film in history based on ever growing fan clamor.

Instead, he is taking his sweet time in making a really good movie, perhaps even thinking of equalling or surpassing the feat of “Avatar” when it was released in 2009.

From initially having a 2016 playdate, the official release date of “Avatar 2” has been moved to December 2017 in order to give Cameron and the production team more time to make the sequel even better. Apparently, the team will not just be making “Avatar 2” during the production but also “Avatar 3” and “Avatar 4.”

“Avatar 3” already has a playdate of December 2018, while “Avatar 4” will follow exactly one year later.

The delay or the push back in the release of “Avatar 2” was apparently worth it as James Cameron revealed in a very recent interview that the reason for such is the fact that his team is currently focusing on creating graphics for the ocean ecosystem of Pandora.

After the graphics have been completed, the production team will start filming the underwater oceanographic exploration for “Avatar 2” and “Avatar 3” similar to the one shown in the movies “Titanic” and the “The Abyss,” details the International Business Times of India.

Fascination over ocean exploration

Cameron was also quoted in the interview as saying that the production team is doing all the three “Avatar” sequels so they are creating an ocean ecosystem for Pandora.

The director said that there is no direct map between the deep ocean exploration that he has done in “Titanic” and the ocean stuff that they are doing for the three “Avatar” films, but he will continue doing such as he has always been fascinated by ocean exploration stuff.

He explained that the scuba diving he did before in the deep ocean has more of a direct connection to “Avatar 2” and “Avatar 3” which will not take place completely under the water. Cameron added that those are just part of the environment of Pandora that audience will see.

Cameron also said that the fact that people are basically overfishing that results to climate change, citing that a few degrees of temperature rise is going to take out the coral reefs. He also expressed concern that all those beautiful images of the coral environments that people grew up with won’t exist in 50 years at the rate that people are going in terms of pumping greenhouse gases into the environment.

He added that they don’t have to explore the coral reefs at this point because he understands them very well and knows that they’re dying and they’re ultimately doomed if people don’t change their profligate ways,” notes KpopStarz.

Motion-capture technology

Last month, reports came out that Cameron will be using an increased frame rate for filming the upcoming “Avatar 2.” He will likewise utilize motion-capture technology in shooting most of the underwater scenes in the movie.

Reports also state that a good portion of the sequel will be shot underwater confirming early speculations that there will be some scenes in the deep in the upcoming film. It was actually the late music composer James Horner who revealed the underwater scenes in a recent interview before his untimely demise.

Horner was quoted as saying previously that a lot of the scenes of “Avatar 2” will take place underwater which is a completely different environment from “Avatar.” Horner was also the music composer for “Titanic,” the second biggest-grossing film of all time next only to “Avatar,” and worked with James Cameron too.
