The second season of the runaway hit Japanese anime TV series “Attack on Titan” adapted from the manga (Japanese comics) by series creator Hajime Isayama, has been generating a lot of interests and enthusiasm from fans especially with its superb Season 1 which came out back in 2014 still.
According to Headlines & Global News, Season 2 of “Attack on Titan” will delve on the anime’s massive cast of characters, particularly the obscure Ymir. The disclosure actually came no less from Isayama during a recent interview.
Ymir holds the key to the ultimate conclusion of the whole series and that the overall plot of “Attack on Titan” as well as the history of the giant Titan will rely heavily on his story progression on the anime, notes the Christian Today.
The name of Ymir is based on Norse mythology. He was the first being to come into existence and is both the father of the Nordic giants and later, the gods such as Odin.
Focusing on the backstory of Ymir
When he was killed, his body was used to construct the cosmos. With this backstory, it is possible that Ymir may be related to the origins of the Titans or at least how they began to spread across the world, eventually causing the reduction of human population.
Fans and viewers of “Attack on Titan” and readers of its manga source material will recall that Ymir spent about 60 years as a Titan before he regained his human form and the events before his transformation have not yet been explored in the anime series.
In the manga, Ymir has not made an appearance following the “Clash of Titans” story arc and it was presumed by readers that he was already dead.
However, with the recent statement of Isayama, it’s clear that the readers of the manga and viewers of the anime have not seen the last of Ymir.
It is very likely that Ymir will appear again in the future as the origins of the Titans and it shall be continuously explored in the manga and anime series together.
He also did not hold much importance in Season 1 but his being kept in the dark may be on purpose and is meant to allow his character to get the spotlight he deserves when Season 2 launches later this year.
A mere dot in the main plotline
While Isayama’s statement seems to be a mere dot in the grand scheme of the anime’s overall plot, those who have read the manga, which is actually titled as “Shingeki no Kyojin,” Ymir’s story will be the focus of the second season because he will become a key character in the manga’s “Clash of the Titans” story arc.
It is one of the manga’s most suspenseful and action-packed arcs to date. It is also expected that the second season of the Japanese anime would most likely match, if not exceed, its extremely successful first season.
Season 1 was a runaway success that fans of the anime immediately demanded the series’ second season.
While there have been reports that Season 2 of “Attack on Titan” shall be released either in the first quarter or second quarter of this year, there is a good chance that the anime would hit the small screen around the second half of 2016.
At the moment, Isayama and the anime’s production studios, Production I.G. and Wit Studio, have not provided any official word on the highly-anticipated release of Season 2 of “Attack on Titan.”
“Attack on Titan” is set in a world where humanity lives in cities surrounded by enormous walls due to the Titans, gigantic humanoid beings who devour humans seemingly without reason.
The story follows the adventures of Eren Jaeger, his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their friend Armin Arlert, whose lives are changed forever after a colossal Titan breaches the wall of their hometown and wreaks havoc on it.
Vowing revenge and seeking to reclaim the world from the Titans, Eren and his friends join the Scout Regiment, an elite group of soldiers who fight the Titans.
