The current flagship smartphone of Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy S6, has three major variants. Everyone knows that the first variant is the bigger and sleek-looking Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge which was launched simultaneously with the 2015 flagship smartphone of the Korean tech company in March.
The two other variants have been confirmed to be the Samsung Galaxy S6 mini and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active.
While the Samsung Galaxy S6 mini is still a few months to go from its launching, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is almost upon consumers, particularly for UK consumers that is. Accordingly, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active, which is exclusive to American carrier AT&T for the time being, will be launched in the UK retail markets on June 12, states PC Advisor.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active has been rumored for some weeks now based on leaks from various sources as well as from the Korean tech company’s website which featured a hint to its coming.
High in durability
Tim Baxter, president of Samsung America, said that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is the company’s way of delivering to consumers the high durability and powerful performance of the Samsung Galaxy S6.
The latest variant of the Samsung Galaxy S6 actually is in response to the criticisms that the latest flagship from the Korean tech company has received from reviewers particularly with regards to the water resistance and battery features.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active has more rugged capabilities, it is water resistant, and has an improved camera, battery and design features enabling its users, who are expected to be businessmen and professionals, to do more, according to Baxter.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active has an IP68 waterproof rating and a rugged feature which makes the device look like a Samsung Galaxy S6 with a chunky case on it.
With an IP68 rating, it means users can dip it into water up to a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes and it will still work. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is also shock resistant and dust proof.
The handset also features three physical buttons instead of just the home button but it does not have the fingerprint scanner like the base Samsung Galaxy S6 model.
Power under the hood
Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active sports a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED screen and Samsung’s Exynos 7420 octa-core 64-bit processor.
It shall have a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper with 32GB of wireless charging. It will come out of the box with Android 5.0 Lollipop with possible free upgrade to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop or Android 5.1 Lollipop.
It also features an Activity Zone which means users are able to quickly launch a compass, a torch, and a stopwatch from the device, which is ideal for those who have active lifestyles. The Samsung Galaxy S6 comes in three colors – the camo white, the camo blue and grey.
Samsung has also addressed the battery concerns on the Samsung Galaxy S6 with a bigger battery on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active with its 3,500 mAH power supply capacity.
