The smartwatch market is in an interesting place right now, and we’re constantly seeing new designs that experiment with all sorts of features. It will likely take a while before smartwatches arrive to some standard design shared across the industry, and until then we’re going to see many interesting solutions from all sides.
There are already talks about things like smartwatches that project themselves onto the user’s skin, as well as devices that can almost completely replicate the functionality of a smartphone, so this market niche could potentially explode over the next few years.
If Asus make a good release with the ZenWatch 3, we wouldn’t be surprised if their more innovative design elements find their way into the products of some of their competitors sooner or later. This is a traditional part of the way the market works, after all.
Asus themselves should probably realize that and implement some recent design trends into their own device too, if they want to have a chance at competing with this release. Adapting to a common form factor is not enough when customers have been complaining about other features of the ZenWatch line, but let’s not forget that we still don’t know the company’s plans for the watch officially. The August 31 reveal could be a major event not just for fans of Asus, but for smartwatch lovers across the industry in general.
