PlayStation 4 owners got this Thursday, a new patch called the [easyazon_link identifier=”B013TVXHYC” locale=”US” tag=”masterherald-20″]ARK: Survival Evolved[/easyazon_link], which ultimately included Procedurally Generated Maps into the mixture of accessories for the console. Not just that, to improve gamer’s experience Studio Wildcard also tried to address a few game crashes called Blue Screening, with the patch.
However, instead of helping improve the experience of gamers, the new patch made the crashes worse for many players. The 502.7 patch released for the PS4 version is a bit on the miserly side as far as features are concerned.
However, it does introduce a new memory allocator feature, for much more well-organized memory usage. The feature happens to resolve any OOM crashes and in turn boosts performance. At least that’s what the official view is relating to the patch notes.
This was originally intended to solve the problems with ARK: Survival Evolved crashes, but that has not been the case.
There have been a huge number of frequent crashes by survivors, across the online forums such as Twitter and ARK PS4 Reddit group. On the bright side, the issue has been acknowledged by Studio Wildcard, and Community Manager Jat asked for the player’s assistance in pointing out the cause of the crashes.
The most shared cause of the crashes looks as if to be occurring while riding a flying domesticated animal like a Pteranodon.
Jat announced in the Reddit thread while trying to seek help that he had successfully recreated the crash, yet he was unsure if the problem stems from their mem logic changes, or from some other matter.
He also informed in the thread that as of then, all his tests confirmed a singular conclusion that the crash is coming from specific locations, which might be a memory. However, they assured players that they would keep working at it until a solution unveils itself. They have also requested for a Question and Answer Session with the tech giant Sony.
Meanwhile, Studio Wildcard Community Manger Jen recommended through Twitter for PlayStation 4 players to stop flying for a little while, to prevent crashes. Although, it isn’t the first time that Xbox One owners have witnessed the crashing of the ARK: Survival Evolved, so they are quite familiar with the situation.
On Microsoft’s console, it is called “Dashboarding”, as players are discarded out of their game to the main dashboard screen. This can be particularly frustrating when riding a tamed animal, as instantly logging back into the server can result in spawning in a new body versus against where they just were.
It can also result in the losing of a tamed dinosaur because of it either flying away or being killed. With any luck, Studio Wildcard will be able to deliver the fix to Sony and it can be launched before the weekend as this kind of problem can cause the game’s customer base to drop.
Another ill-fated side effect of the recurrent crashes is it puts a damper on a new round of official servers being added alongside the Procedurally Generated Maps. PS4 owners now have to set up servers 735 through 766.
In the meantime, the Procedurally Generated Maps lend the capability to create semi-randomized maps. This was first announced in the PC version of ARK: Survival Evolved in the month of November, followed by the Xbox One, which was in mid-Dec some supplementary work and testing, so that it could be made available on consoles and players. Gamers are advised to expect long map generation times.
Still, Studio Wildcard willmix up the Extinction servers by using PGMs to generate a new map every time the server refreshes at the end of a month. It’s vital to note Procedurally Generated Maps are still being developed by Studio Wildcard and are lacking many features that we can see on The Island, The Center, and Scorched Earth maps.
