Apple iPod Touch 6th Generation Could Debut in March 2015!

The last time Apple launched a compact media player known as Apple iPod Touch 5th Generation was on September 12, 2012. It was unveiled to a very receptive market subsequently after a month, highlighting that the love of fans for music devices, especially coming from Apple, remains unmatched.

While Apple has already phased out its iPod Classic and the iPod Shuffle, fans remain optimistic that the American tech giant would still push through with the roll out of the iPod Touch 6th Generation.

Although there is no official word from Apple thus far, speculations are now rife that the company’s latest compact media player would be launched together with the much-awaited Apple Watch and possibly with a new mobile operating system too.

The Apple Watch was earlier rumored to be launched after the Chinese New Year. Thus, a March 2015 release date for the watch and the Apple iPod Touch 6th
Generation is very likely. The new mobile operating system is likely the iOS 9.0 to address the problematic iOS 8.0 released in September 2014.

iPhone 6 features

The latest and loudest rumors on the Apple iPod Touch 6th Generation is that it will sport iPhone 6 features, according to Crossmap.

Aside from the fact that the new generation compact media player might come out in two sizes – a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch device – the Apple iPod 6th Generation will also have the same iPhone 6 features including Tim Cook’s baby – the Apple Pay.

While little is being said about Apple’s new mobile payment system launched on October 20, 2014, the company is said to be making headway on the Google Wallet after getting several banks and major retail establishments onboard.

But the caveat to having an Apple iPod Touch 6th Generation that looks like an iPhone 6 is that the compact media player may actually affect the sales of the company’s current flagship smartphone. It is not clear how Apple would position a similar-looking device and prevent it from competing with one another.

Why the simultaneous release

Apple has announced the Apple Watch as early as the first quarter of 2014. It was supposed to be launched in September 2014 simultaneous with the unveiling of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. But the company decided to give app developers time to finetune, and ensure the quality of their software creations.

The iWatch, which is now the term for the Apple Watch and sounds just right given how Apple names its devices, would be synchronized to several devices, including the Apple iPod Touch 6th Generation.

Launching the two devices at the same time would allow Apple to highlight to the public the synchronization feature of the iWatch so it is likely that the two devices would be rolled out together.

But in order to do the synchronization, an iOS is necessary too to power and synchronize both devices thus it is likely that the iOS 9.0 will be the one to complement the entire launch, which is almost getting clearer by the day this coming March 2015.

  1. I sure hope the iPod touch launches this year. My current 5th generation is starting to physically fall apart & is super glitchy now.

    1. I agree! My 5th gen. iPod Touch worked perfectly when I went to bed last night and was 90% charged; today it is completely dead. Won’t turn on, does not see the charger, tried all the usual stuff and nothing works. I’ve never had an iPhone and use my iPod Touch every single day and will be crushed if Apple pulls it from their lineup!
