Although the latest iPhones of the American tech giant – the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus – have just been released more than three months ago, rumors about its upcoming iPhone – the iPhone 7 – are already swirling wildly online.
With the impending release of the Samsung Galaxy S7 in the first quarter of next year, it was already expected that speculations about the upcoming iPhone 7 will also join the speculation bandwagon. After all, the one-upmanship between Apple and Samsung is the one constant thing in the business equation.
Rumored features and specifications of the Apple iPhone 7 have been making the rounds on the internet ever since the release of the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus but latest reports have it that the next iPhone from the American tech giant will completely do away with the device’s headphone jack.
The iPhone 7 will ditch the headphone jack in favor of the Lightning port or Bluetooth. In fact, a German website posted photos of a sleek-looking concept of the iPhone 7 showing how it has ditched the headphone jack, reports BGR.
The concept was designed by Eric Huisman and gives fans a glimpse of what the iPhone would look like when Apple finally decides to dump its traditional 3.5mm audio port for the purpose of making the device thinner than ever.
The image also showed how the iPhone 7 could look like if only features a USB Type-C port at the bottom.
A controversial decision
However, there are also rumors that Apple may not simply do away with the headphone jack on its upcoming iPhone as it will surely court controversy among its users.
Doing away with the 3.5mm headphone jack will force a lot of iPhone users to either buy new headphones or spend money on an adapter for their old headphones, which will be a big turn off for fans and consumers of the iPhone.
There are also reports that Apple has come to the decision to eliminate all unnecessary ports on its devices, the same way it did to its 2015 Apple MacBook released in March this year.
It is possible that the iPhone 7 will make use of the slimmer 2.6mm headphone jack instead.
But all these reports are mere speculations at this time and will only be known once Apple makes a formal announcement to either confirm or deny these rumors. But it is unlikely for the American tech giant to do so anytime soon. Thus, all information about the iPhone 7 should be taken with a fine grain of salt.
Five prototypes of the iPhone 7
There are also reports saying that the American tech giant now has as many as five different prototypes of the iPhone 7 and the company is reportedly deliberating over which one or ones will be pushed forward for further development, details Know Your Mobile.
Apple is also reportedly testing AMOLED displays for possible integration to its iPhone 7 in its ongoing prototype testing program. But critics were quick to say that it is unlikely for Apple to make use of AMOLED display screens for its iPhones because they expect the technology to be adopted by the American tech giant sometime in either 2018 or 2019 still.
One of the most interesting rumors about the iPhone 7 is that it will come out next year as the thinnest iPhone ever from Apple because it shall reportedly have a thickness of only 6 millimeters. The information actually came no less from reliable Apple analyst and tipster, Ming-Chi Kuo.
The 6-mm thickness of the iPhone 7 will actually make it share the same thinness as the iPod Touch 6th Generation which Apple launched in July.
