Motorola was second only to Nexus devices to take on the Android 5.0 Lollipop when Google officially released it in November last year. And as expected, those devices were among those who experienced the issues, bugs, and problems that came with the highly-touted mobile operating system.
While the Motorola Droid Turbo was officially released to the retail markets on October 28 last year, merely two weeks ahead of the official release of the Android 5.0 Lollipop, many believe that it was uncharacteristic of the American tech company not to update its latest smartphone offering with the latest mobile operating system.
When Motorola Droid Turbo came out of the markets, it still had the Android 4.4 KitKat onboard and surprisingly up until today, most users still has the same operating system on their respective handsets, save for a few who were resourceful enough to take on updates by their own means.
It was for such reason that some users of Motorola’s erstwhile flagship smartphone felt that the Droid Turbo was apparently left behind in the updating process more than six months after the new mobile OS was released.
As a matter of fact, a number of Motorola Droid Turbo fans and users were considering their handset to be a second-class citizen in Motorola’s smartphone line.
However, to douse cold water on speculations that the American tech company has forgotten about its Motorola Droid Turbo as far as operating system update is concerned, Motorola confirmed that its previous flagship smartphone line shall update straight to the Android 5.1 Lollipop from Android 4.4 KitKat, which means that the handset will skip the Android 5.0 Lollipop and its consequent update patches – the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop and the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
However, the Android 5.1 Lollipop will not be totally bug-free on the Motorola Droid Turbo as it is almost impossible for a complex firmware update operating in various environmental conditions and thousands of user variations not to have bugs, glitches or other issues.
Confirmed for release
The announcement about the Motorola Droid Turbo going straight to Android 5.1 Lollipop happened early in May but owners are still anxiously waiting for the official rollout of the OS on their device.
Apparently, their anxious waiting moments are about to end as an American carrier validated Motorola’s previous announcement by confirming that the Android 5.1 Lollipop will be seeded to the Motorola Droid Turbo smartphones beginning in mid-June.
The confirmation came from Jose Arturo, device test engineer of Verizon, through a recent Google+ post, notes the International Business Times.
According to Arturo, the delay in the updating of the Motorola Droid Turbo was because of Verizon’s nationwide HD Voice service. The carrier was actually worried that the software update might affect the quality of its voice service.

The HD voice basically does not work on a Turbo so I can’t imagine how delaying an update will make it any worse.
It is indefensible that VZ/Moto have not udated this phone and will give no good info as to when it will pushed out. There customer service is beyon horrible.
