Amir Khan Recants Statement on Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Fight; Says He Wants to See the Mega-Bout Happening Soon

Pakistan-born British boxer Amir Khan has recanted his earlier pronouncement made in January that he does not see the Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather fight happening. Now he believes that the fight is going to finally happen and wants to see it himself in May.

While the fight has not been confirmed yet, Amir Khan is making the statement not as a boxer but as a boxing fan himself.

In January, Amir Khan has been negotiating with the camp of Floyd Mayweather to give him a shot for a fight. He even gave Money an ultimatum to take his offer of a fight before the end of January but apparently, Mayweather is not interested in fighting him.

While Pacquiao was in London in the third week of January, Amir Khan also tried negotiating with Pacman’s camp for a possible ring clash. He would have been a good option for Pacquiao had it not for the chance encounter of the Filipino boxing icon with Mayweather in Miami late in January.

The chance encounter in the American Airlines Arena between Pacquiao and Mayweather during a Miami Heat game against the Milwaukee Bucks on January 27 led to a one-on-one meeting later on in the hotel where Pacquiao was billeted.

The meeting between the two best fighters in the welterweight division and the most popular boxers in the world set off renewed enthusiasm in the negotiations, which is already close to being finalized as of this time.

Okay to miss his dream fight

Amir Khan says that his dream fights would either be fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquiao. But he is willing to let go of that dream if the two future Hall of Fame boxers finally slug each other out in the ring, reports Sky Sports.

The British boxer was hoping that his resounding victory last year against Devon Alexander would be enough for him to be given a shot by Mayweather. But he was not given his due.

Alternatively, he was also looking to square off with Pacquiao should Mayweather refuse to fight him. Pacquiao wants to fight Khan too but now that the Mayweather fight looms high on his horizon, Amir Khan was relegated to the sidelines as expected.

Khan disclosed that he was actually speaking to the camps of Mayweather and Pacquiao about the May fight between the two great boxers and he believes that it is going to finally happen.

He says that it is the fight that everyone has been waiting to see so Mayweather and Pacquiao should finally make it happen this time after talking about it for more than five years already. Khan says that he also wants to see the fight finally happening.

With Mayweather and Pacquiao already out of his fight plate, Khan is now looking at fighting fellow British boxer Kell Brook sometime in May too.

But Brook is defending his IBF welterweight title on March 28 so Khan’s wish for a May fight is very unlikely. Perhaps a few more months down the road may be possible for Brook.
