Various news have been coming out about “The Amazing Spider-Man 3”, and so far the biggest speculation about the new film is who’s going to play the role of the main character. There are several main possibilities right now, but the most recent report we’ve heard is that Asa Butterfield is apparently out of the question. That decreases the list of possibilities by one, even though it’s still somewhat difficult to tell who’s going to play the role of Spider-Man.
Previously, we heard that Chandler Riggs had been taken out of the casting process, and now Asa Butterfield is the next one to get his name off the list. There haven’t been any reports explaining exactly what led to the decision, but we can assume that the producers have decided that he doesn’t fit the role as well as the other candidates.
So far, there are reportedly three actors left to consider, so the casting is getting closer and closer to its final decision. Tom Holland is apparently one of the frontrunners, and after we saw him in “The Impossible”, where he played the older son of Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, we might get to see him playing the role of Spider-Man as well.
He has been getting a lot of praise for his work on Ron Howard’s “In the Heart of the Sea” as well, which is set to come out in December – previews for the film have been pretty much universally positive, and it looks like the young actor has plenty of skills to set him up for a long, exciting career.
Indeed, some critics have said that he’s the best choice for Spider-Man right now, but there are apparently other actors to consider as well. Charlie Plummer is another option, and his role as Michael Thompson in “Boardwalk Empire” got him quite a lot of attention. Plummer would make the perfect actor to be slowly molded into the role of Spider-Man over time, which is apparently something that the producers of the film are interested in, so he could make a very good choice for the role.
Then we also have Matthew Lintz, who has been seen as a very likely successor to Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, but so far we’ve been getting limited reports about the actor’s possibility of playing in the film. It’s not out of the question, but apparently there have been lots of internal politics going on behind the scenes that are affecting the decision, and it’s not just about the actor himself from what we can tell.
