There are many things that hit the internet each day that go viral and “break” the internet, but the group that go viral and break records is not that big. In that small group, there is a new member and that is the trailer for the new Fantastic Four movie that is expected to be released soon. According to reports, the new movie’s trailer was released just the other day and it quickly broke records for Fox Studios as it cleared more than 42 million views.
Those 42 million views were faster than the X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer that was released before that movie hit the box office and did very well. Even though the trailer is a good one, there are many critics that think that the movie could still be a flop at the box office. In order to have a good trailer, the studio needs to drag you into the movie, tell you a little bit about it, but not give away anything that would keep you from seeing it.
According to writer, Sam Kinberg, the trailer was a result of hard work and one that tells the tone, sets the world it will be in and the voice of the movie is revealed without telling too much. The movie is going to be a reboot and has been talked about for a little while before actual information was released by the writer in a recent interview.
Fox Studios is hoping that the new movie is just as successful as the latest X-Men movie, which made 20th Century Fox have the most successful year of any other studio in all of 2014. There are many other movies that are going to hit the theaters soon including X-Men: Apocalypse and the Deadpool and Gambit spin-off movies as well. Movies have learned the hard way that even though you have a well produced trailer, that does not always turn into box office dollars.
The odds that any type of Marvel or superhero movie flops are pretty slim right now with the successes of Thor, Iron Man, Avengers, Captain America and others bringing in millions of dollars around the world. With so many more action hero and superhero movies coming out in the next few years, it would not be far fetched to think that even just one might fail. The writer admits that Fantastic Four is going to need some work in order to bring it to “Days of Future Past” caliber, but he is up to the task and hopes the huge fan base is there as well.
