Doctor Who completes its 10th anniversary in 2015. Doctor Who has enjoyed a very successful run on television, but the rating wasn’t very good for the last year’s Doctor Who Season 8 episodes. This has got the BBC a little worried.
No, no, fans! Do not even think about Doctor Who going off the air! Russell T. Davies, the executive producer of the last Doctor Who series, has said that it’s blasphemous to consider even that Doctor Who will be pulled off air. So, the Whovians do not have to worry about the show coming to an end.
Davies has agreed that to consider even that Doctor, Who will be pulled out, is impossible, but it’s the first time in ten years that the series has got such appalling ratings. As an avid Doctor Who fan, he finds the whole occurrence a bizarre one! He feels that Doctor Who will continue running as long as there is an audience for it.
BBC has decided to get their experts on board in an attempt to boost the ratings of the next season and redeem themselves for the debacle of Doctor, Who Season 8. They are looking into viewer feedbacks to identify the problems and trying to rectify and eliminate them.
There seem to be several opinions on why Doctor Who Season 8 didn’t enjoy good ratings. Some people of the opinion, that the adult content and dark storyline is the reason for the drop in the ratings, others, claim that it’s because the series is boring and too complicated. Steven Moffat, the writer, has received a lot of flak.
The writers are not doing a great job. The series, that has been watched by generations, seems to be doing something wrong this time round, for it to be hit so badly. BBC is trying to change their creative team if that helps the popular series to gain back viewer rating.
BBC is making amends to make Doctor Who Season 9 appeal to the whole audience. It is aiming at incorporating content that would be liked by the young adults as well the older generation. For so long, the series catered only to the older adult population. Fans are of the opinion that they should bring back the aliens and the monsters into the storyline.
Doctor Who Season 9 shooting is already own its way, but no official word has been given about its release. Although the tentative dates, seem likely to 2015 autumn. Peter Capaldi will be reprising his role as Doctor Who and will be accompanied by Jenna Coleman.
Asked if he would be writing an episode for the 10th anniversary, Russell T. Davies said he has moved on and would prefer Moffat doing it.
