Sony Launches New TVs that are Thinner than an Apple iPhone 6!

LG may have unveiled the quantum dots technology in the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 at Las Vegas with its latest line of smart TVs, but Sony is running away as the winner by launching three big-screen TV sets that are actually thinner than an iPhone 6.

Sony’s latest lines of 4K TVs are only 4.5 millimeters thin, which are thinner than an iPhone 6 which has a thickness of below 7 millimeters.

Officially, Sony’s 4K TVs are called the XBR-55900C, the XBR-65900C, and the XBR-85900C models, representing the 55-inch, 65-inch, and 85-inch variants, respectively

Sony is making the TVs available only in the US initially but has not disclosed any details yet with regards to the prices of each of the three models.

Floating illusion

The 4K TVs are so thin that it gives off the illusion that the bezel frame around the LCD screens almost disappear making the devices look as they are floating especially if they are mounted on the wall, observes Mashable.

The Japanese manufacturer says that such feature is one of the key advantages of 4K TVs because the devices would simply look like as if they were either part or molded to the walls when mounted.

Sony has called its latest line of TVs as 4K to refer to the 4K resolution (4,000 pixels) that they boast, which is four times better than the resolution of today’s best high-definition television, details PC World.

Other key features

The latest line of Sony’s 4K TVs also run on the new X1 4 processor which further ensures improved display resolution, dynamic range, and color.

The TVs also come with Sony’s One Flick interface and are based on Google’s Android TV platform, which viewers can take advantage of in accessing online video streaming services such as YouTube, Hulu, and Netflix directly from their TV sets.

There is also the TV Voice search built into the platform to allow for a voice-activated search.

Another add-on, a newly-introduced feature of the Sony TVs, is the Google Cast, which enables users to stream audio or music from Android mobile devices, like a smartphone or a tablet, to compatible speakers.

Google has recently announced that it is backing Sony’s new TV platform along with a few other companies. The other major TV manufacturer in the Google list is Sharp, also from Japan.

Other new products

Sony has likewise launched a 4K home cinema projector that is capable of projecting a brightness of 1,500 lumens using the company’s Triluminos technology, meant to improve color, contrast, and image sharpness. The device is also equipped with two HDMI ports, once of which is HDCP capable.
