Legends of Tomorrow Season 3: Release date and updates

Our favorite DC universe time-travel show will soon be back with new plots and unbelievable twists and turns. Here’s what we know…

New Faces

Legends of Tomorrow added a few fresh faces for the third season. For one, they got Billy Zane (Titanic, The Phantom, Twin Peaks…) and he will guest star as the legendary showman P.T. Barnum, in an episode that we are guessing will take place in 19th century America.

“Obviously, we couldn’t resist putting Victor Garber and Billy Zane back on screen for the first time since the Titanic”, exec producer Phil Klemperer said before adding more detail about the role and the casting “I’ve wanted to bring Billy onto Legends every since I saw him in a friend’s comedy pilot. I’m not sure that people know how funny Billy is, although we cast him as P.T. Barnum because we knew that he would be able to find the soul beneath the larger-than-life showman.

Truth is, Barnum never said ‘there’s a sucker born every minute.’ He was less a conman, more the father of modern advertising. A guy who made things ‘go viral’ before that was a thing. Sure, in one sense, he’s the villain of our story, but in another, he’s just a guy who wants to put on a good show. Anyone who works in TV can relate to that, right?! Anyway, Billy seemed like the perfect guy to get that duality.”

Next to Zane, another surprise cast is Tala Ashe (Law &Order, Smash, Odyssey) who will play the DC Comics character Zari Adrianna Tomaz – or as some of you might know this character, superhero Isis. Among other things, Isis is the Egyptian goddess of love, so we are expecting to see a funny plot around her introduction into the show.

Ashe’s character is described by the network as a Muslim-American woman from the year 2030 who lives in a world of contradictions. Technology is to blame for an incredible change in her future, it is just too bad that human nature didn’t keep pace. Lack of care for the planet, prejudice and fear have forced Zari to become a ‘grey hat hacktivist.’ A computer geek with a combative. A woman who is living a double life and doesn’t realize that she has secret, latent powers derived from an ancient, mystical source.

The last time we saw them, the team effectively broke time while trying to stop the Legion of Doom. Subsequently they crash landed in 2017 Los Angeles, where they saw buildings from various time periods and a hoard of T-Rexes approaching their ship.

Based on that, we can already see that in the upcoming season the Legends will be struggling to fix all of their mistakes – of course if Rip Hunter’s newly assembled Time Bureau will allow it. The CW already teased us about what’s in store for the new season, and it seems to indicate that Rip will clash with his former teammates.

CW announced

“After the defeat of Eobard Thawne and his equally nefarious Legion of Doom, the Legends face a new threat created by their actions at the end of last season. In revisiting a moment in time that they had already participated in, they have essentially fractured the timeline and created anachronisms – a scattering of people, animals, and objects all across time! Our team must find a way to return all the anachronisms to their original timelines before the time stream falls apart.

But before our Legends can jump back into action, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) and his newly established Time Bureau call their methods into question. With the Time Bureau effectively the new sheriffs in town, the Legends disband – until Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) discovers one of them in the middle of his well-deserved vacation in Aruba.

Seeing this as an opportunity to continue their time traveling heroics, Sara (Caity Lotz) wastes no time in getting the Legends back together.  We reunite with billionaire inventor Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), the unconventional historian-turned-superhero Nate Heywood (Nick Zano), and Professor Martin Stein (Victor Garber) and Jefferson “Jax” Jackson (Franz Drameh), who together form the meta-human Firestorm.

Once reunited, the Legends will challenge the Time Bureau’s authority over the timeline and insist that however messy their methods may be, some problems are beyond the Bureau’s capabilities. Some problems can only be fixed by Legends.”

They’ll be back soon.

Ok, so the CW announcement sounds like there will be a whole lot of fun, fighting and majestic plots in the new season, so we cannot wait for it to return to CW this fall. Premiere is expected to be on Tuesday, October 10 at 9pm EST – right after season premiere of The Flash.
