While the royal family has not confirmed it, there have been reports that the second son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, Prince Harry, has been very vocal about his dislike for US President Donald Trump.
Apparently, even during the time when Trump was still campaigning to become the 45th US President sometime in 2015, Prince Harry has already expressed his dislike for him.
However, as it turned out, Donald Trump was elected 45th President of the United States in November last year. Rumors are swirling around in the UK that Prince Harry is still not a fan of the Donald.
The speculations started flying around when reports came out that Donald Trump is planning to have a state visit in the UK very soon, which shall include a courtesy call to the monarch, Queen Elizabeth, and her royal family, that includes Prince Harry.
According to speculations, Prince Harry thinks that the President of the US is a serious threat to human rights. In his first 15 days in the office after assuming the presidency from Barack Obama, Trump already made a decision to deny refugees access to the US and ban people from seven Muslim-majority countries.
It did not only spark a widespread outcry in the US but more so in the international community, reports the Daily Mail of UK.
Trump’s decision was denounced by opposition leaders all over the world and sparked protests in Britain, leading some to question if the President’s invitation to Britain should be revoked.
It is the government that invites world leaders on state visits, and Theresa May had reiterated the invitation when she visited Washington in January.
But more than a million people then signed a petition calling for Trump’s trip to the UK be canceled, and the Queen was even dragged into the dispute.
Putting the monarch in a difficult position
A former Foreign Office head, who previously accompanied the Queen on state visits, suggested that it may put the monarch, who traditionally hosts world leaders in Buckingham Palace, in a difficult position.
The same thing will most likely happen if and when Prince Harry would finally meet Donald Trump in person, maybe not in the next few weeks but in the future. After all, Trump will be in the office for all of four years.
In most cases, hosting the visit involves lavish pomp and ceremony, as well as a stay of several days at the Queen’s official residence.
But no one at Kensington Palace was available for comment on Prince Harry’s supposed opinion of President Donald Trump.
A threat to human rights
Some sources close to the royal family said that Prince Harry is not in favor of the views of Donald Trump which is why he dislikes him.
There are also rumors saying that Prince Harry thinks Trump’s view on human rights is not aligned with most of the world leaders.
However, a spokesperson for the Buckingham Palace said that by long-standing convention, they never comment on reports from unnamed sources of purported private conversations involving members of the royal family.
Apparently, whatever opinions that Prince Harry has on Donald Trump is only his and not the rest of the royal family and every person has a right to speak his opinion.
The recent moves of Trump to subject refugees to extreme vetting have caused an uproar in the global community. LGBT advocacy groups are saying it will condemn those fleeing persecution because of their sexuality or gender identity to be left in life-threatening situations.
