Filming for the second season of “Shades of Blue” has been coming along nicely, and even though we haven’t heard much official information regarding the show’s upcoming plot developments, fans are still looking forward to seeing Jennifer Lopez reprise her role as Harlee Santos.
The show has only been on air for one season, but it’s already managed to build a loyal following among TV fans. More importantly, it showed that there is still a lot of potential in the police procedural genre, even though most people considered it to be one of the most worn out and exhausted genres at the moment, up there with legal and medical dramas.
A recent teaser from the set of “Shades of Blue” showed Jennifer Lopez alongside her on-screen partner, Gino Anthony Pesi, having a conversation. No details were attached to the picture so we don’t know what the scene was about, but we’ll find out in a couple of months anyway.
It’s probably safe to assume that the relationship of the two characters is going to play a major role in the new season, as it was already a central part of the first season’s plot. There is a very peculiar dynamic between the two, and the writers have managed to come up with a fresh take on the classic love story, but it’s questionable how much potential the relationship of the two has if they keep going at it like that.
Suspicions that things will get more serious between the two also increased when we saw a photo of them kissing. However, occasional flings are not the kind of thing fans of the show are interested in seeing between the two, and they’re not very hard to pull off for the writers in the given circumstances either.
What most people would actually like to see is for Harlee and James to get together for good, but the shaky trust foundations of their relationship has been making this very difficult. Perhaps in season 2 we’re going to see James finally deciding to let go a little, and allowing Harlee to take control of things. He would still be making a huge bet by doing that though, so we’re curious to see what the writers have planned.
Filming for season 2 has been underway for a few months now, after it started in July this year. The new episodes are expected to arrive on January 15th, so that gives the producers some time to tease their fans some more, and to give us previews of the upcoming developments. At this point, fans would definitely appreciate seeing some more concrete information rather than just pictures from the set though, so hopefully the showrunners are paying attention.
The new season won’t be all about love though, as fans of the show would expect. “Shades of Blue” has always delivered a nice mix between romance and action, and it looks like the new set of episodes is going to continue that trend in full force.
Some additional previews we saw for the new season gave us a glimpse into the action scenes that are coming up, and it looks like Lopez and the rest of the cast will get plenty of chances to run around in full combat gear during this season. Which is definitely good to see, as it shows that the producers of “Shades of Blue” understand what drove fans to their show in the first place, and what kinds of scenes people want to see.
