“Clash of Clans” has been around for quite a while now, and the popularity of the game is still quite strong. But it seems like the developers at Supercell might want to reevaluate their stance on certain issues with the game, as they have managed to disappoint some of their players with a recent statement.
The game’s style revolves largely around players progressively unlocking better items for their bases, and fighting against others for resources. One of the key features of its gameplay is the slow progression of construction work and upgrades, which can be sped up by spending real money.
And according to Supercell, a player isn’t meant to explore all of the game’s contents in just a few weeks or months – the studio sees this as a game that should span over years. And apparently, that’s been the main focus of their development efforts since the beginning as well.
While this was obvious to some extent, it’s a different story when the developers so directly address it in front of their players, and some saw it as the studio openly admitting that they like to milk the game for profits.
The popularity of Supercell has been under fire lately for another reason as well, namely their attitude towards their other hit “Clash Royale”. The game, a spin-off of “Clash of Clans”, made it even more apparent that the studio is trying very hard to monetize their players as much as possible, and this impression seems to be affecting “Clash of Clans” as well.
Meanwhile, the studio has been putting a lot of effort into combating cheaters in the game, and just recently issued a massive wave of bans across the board. Players were hit for various reasons, but the most prominent ones were bots, as well as the use of multiple accounts.
Both of those things can give a player a significant, unfair advantage over their opponents, and it’s good to see that the studio is coming down hard on cheaters. But according to some, this should have been done a long time ago as cheating has become quite the serious issue in “Clash of Clans” lately.
On the other hand, some were disappointed with the ban wave, claiming that it was not executed properly and affected many innocent accounts. Considering that a player would probably never admit to actually cheating when they get banned however, it’s questionable how many of those players have a true story to tell.
After all, one quick glance at Valve’s “VAC” forum for example is enough to show that many cheaters would happily tell a sob story if they see it as a chance of getting unbanned, but thankfully Supercell don’t seem to have any intentions to reverse their decision right now.
The next update for the game should introduce some interesting features that will hopefully freshen up things a bit, and players have been asking for some more adequate end-game content for a while now. The studio should address this issue very soon if they want to retain their popularity and realize their goal of succeeding for many years.
This has been one of the main complaints of some long-time players for some time, and while Supercell have put some effort into addressing the situation, many see it as insufficient. The game is rumored to get some exciting new additions with this month’s update so who knows, maybe the studio will finally manage to please their long-time fans.
