The “Dark Below” DLC for “Destiny” is almost here – it’s scheduled to release on the 9th of December, and will reportedly significantly expand the game’s content, especially in some specific areas. Some players will see a noticeable improvement in the amount of content they have available to explore, and everyone will be able to enjoy a more rich, refined experience overall.
One of the most notable features of the new update is the addition of new legendary gear, which will affect several parts of the game. Current gear in the Tower will be replaced with new items, and all new Legendary gear will have better attack/defense stats than the old items. There are no planned changes for the acquisition methods for Legendary gear, as it will reportedly still use Ascendant Materials for its upgrades. Players should keep in mind that new Raid and Exotic items will be significantly more powerful than Legendary gear, so those who’re looking to truly make their characters powerful should look in those directions instead.
The will be new Rank Commendations as well, and some of them will be tied to purchasing new Legendary gear. When a player reaches a new Reputation Level, Commendations will be delivered to them in special packages. It’s important for players to familiarize themselves with the system if they haven’t already, as the new Legendary items will require certain types of Commendations in order for the player to be able to obtain them, and this can confuse those who don’t understand how the system works.
Furthermore, while Legendary gear is still crafted and upgraded in the same way, there have been changes in the system for Exotic items – these don’t require Ascendant Materials for their upgrades any longer, and the final power node of all Exotic items requires an Exotic Shard, which can be obtained by deconstructing old Exotics the player doesn’t want, or by purchasing it for 7 Strange Coins.
Other than that, the new DLC will add a new Raid, and will introduce changes to the gameplay in both PvE as well as PvP modes. According to people close to the development team, the new gameplay changes make the overall experience significantly more balanced and smoothens out various long-standing flaws with the formula. The changes seem to be major enough that purchasing the new DLC will be more than a worthy investment for most players, especially those who want to maximize their potential.
