Devout fans finally have the news they have been waiting for. Season Four of Sherlock is due to air next January 2017. One of Sherlock’s creators, Steven Moffat has said that the reason for the delay is just all the busy schedules everyone has. He also has been tied up himself working on the British science fiction television program, Dr. Who, which has won countless awards including the British Television Academy Award, the BAFTA Television Award for best actor.
Not to mention being listed in the Guinness Book of World records for the longest-running science fiction television show in the world. Some pretty serious stuff, however, Moffat did say he has the first three scripts finished for the new season of Sherlock ready to go. Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Sherlock Holmes has been very busy in the acting world working on Five other projects not including Sherlock. Between the third and fourth season he was working on the heavily anticipated film by Peter Jackson, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
Cumberbatch did the voice of both the last dragon known as Smaug and the necromancer who is also known as Sauron. Martin Freeman, who plays Dr. John Watson, also stars in The Hobbit. In fact, he plays the leading character, Bilbo Baggins and is the main focus in all three Hobbit movies. Freeman has also been a busy bee working on multiple projects at the same time as Sherlock including a recent deal with Marvel to play in the upcoming film, Captain America: Civil War as Everett Ross, a supporting character the superhero Black Panther.
Season Three ended with lots of mystery and intrigue. Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes were trying to arrest a “terrifying” villain who was mentioned back in season one, and is now identified as Charles Augustus Magnussen. Trying to blackmail Mary Watson, Dr. John Watson’s wife, the arrest fails and Sherlock in an attempt to stop Magnussen’s plan to hurt Mary, shoots him. Mycroft, Sherlock’s older brother pleads to have Sherlock exiled from the country instead of going on trial for murder. An agreement is made and Holmes is put on the next plane. However, just as the plan is about to leave, all over London, every device with a screen, displays images of Sherlock’s arch nemesis James Moriarty.
Sherlock Holmes is immediately called back to the United Kingdom. The writers of the show had a special put out for fans of the show that aired on January 1st at 9:00pm. It was titled the “Abominable Bride” and the setting for the show was back during the Victorian era. A huge success to fans.
