The movie “Independence Day” was shown back in 1996 and its sequel officially titled “Independence Day: Resurgence” would finally be released next year after exactly two decades.
But the sequel shall no longer have Will Smith as an airforce pilot or Bill Pullman as president of the United States. However, it shall still feature veteran actor Jeff Goldblum who shall reprise his role as scientist David Lenson.
After the events of “Independence Day,” Lenson has been helping the world use alien technology to prepare for another attack, notes Us Weekly.
This time around, Jeff Goldblum will work with Liam Hemsworth in what appears to be a NASA/airforce pilot role as they battle aliens, which was previewed during the release of the first official trailer for “Independence Day: Resurgence” on December 13.
The 25-year-old Australian hunk actor is seen fighting aliens in the trailer and looking as handsome as ever.
Directed by Roland Emmerich, “Independence Day: Resurgence” also stars Joey King and Jessie Usher. The sequel seeks to match or even surpass the box-office take of “Independence Day” which posted a staggering $817 million earnings worldwide.
Following its showing in 1996, the first film won an Oscars for Best Effects in the Visual Effects category.
Dating Jennifer Lawrence?
Following the release of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” late last month, and is still showing in many theaters worldwide as of today, rumors about the budding relationship between Liam Hemsworth and Jennifer Lawrence continue to persist in various showbiz circles.
In fact, reports have it that the relationship of the two is possibly one of the worst kept secrets in all of Hollywood, notes Classicalite.
But the rumors have been nothing new as it started way back last year when Jennifer broke up with her “X-Men: Apocalypse” co-star Nicholas Hoult while Liam had split with pop singer Miley Cyrus the year before.
Eventually, it died down when Jennifer started dating Martin Lawrence, frontman for the Coldplay band, again from late last year until they broke up a few months ago.
Latest reports have it that the Liam and Jen were recently spotted having dinner at Waverly Inn in New York. The source claims that Liam had his arm around Jen for most of their meal and she was also resting her head against his shoulder. The two also looked very cozy and were touching the entire time.
The same source said that the chemistry between the two is so obvious, as much as it already did show during “The Hunger Games” film series.
Many are saying that the two are really compatible and looks good together. They also have the same level of sense of humor accordingly.
However, some more astute fans believe that Liam and Jennifer could not go beyond being good friends because they believe that Liam cannot be with someone who is more popular than him, adding that he could not handle how big Miley Cyrus was so he will never be able to handle how big Jennifer is.
Humble beginnings
While he started his acting career on television playing the role of Josh Taylor in the soap opera “Neighbours” and as Marcus on the children’s TV series “The Elephant Princess,” Liam’s first breakthrough in film was in 2010 when he appeared in the American film “The Last Song,” opposite Miley Cyrus.
He got a break when he was made to appear in 2012 with “The Hunger Games” movie series and chalked up four films to his name, all certified blockbusters.
However, Liam’s biggest break is about to come soon when he was officially made as the lead star for the sequel to “Independence Day” officially titled “Independence Day: Resurgence” due to hit theaters in the summer of 2016.
