Katy Perry Looks Back to Her Former Metal Band Before Becoming A Pop Sensation!

Before she became one of this generation’s biggest pop icons, Katy Perry used to lend her vocals for Christian metal band P.O.D., short for Playable on Death.

In fact at that time, Perry, then 20 years old, went by the name of Katy Hudson who was starting out her music career in Christian rock and gospel music, clearly a different image from what the Katy Perry fans are seeing now.

According to Alternative Press, the 30-year-old singer provided her voice for the band’s single “Goodbye For Now” back in 2006. A younger Katy sporting side bangs also tagged along during the band’s appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” almost 10 years ago.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, P.O.D. member Marcos Curiel clarified that reports labeling Katy as a backup singer on their band are disrespectful and not fitting.

Curiel shared that their band invited Perry to participate on their record because they believe she’s one of the few pop artists with strong musicianship roots. He says that Katy made a living not as a backup singer but as her own performer.

He recalls the band got in touch with Perry through producer Glen Ballard leading up to their 2006 collaboration. Curiel reiterates that they have never labeled the “California Gurls” hitmaker a backup singer.

In an interview back in 2012, P.O.D. lead vocalist Sonny Sandoval shares that when they were coming up with “Goodbye For Now,” they thought that it would be a cool twist if they have a female vocal in it which led to Ballard recommending the California-raised singer.

Katy Perry is now a household name in the music industry, being the most watched Super Bowl Halftime performer to date. Two of her music videos have over a million views on YouTube and her albums sold millions across the globe.

After Katy dropped her real surname and went by Perry, she also tried doing different genres of music. Two years later, she signed up for Capitol Records and launched her breakout hit “I Kissed A Girl” from her sophomore album “One of the Boys.”

Now, almost a decade after her Jay Leno stint, the “Waking Up in Vegas” singer is basking in the glory of her hard-earned success. Just this weekend, Katy took to her social media sites her delight and gratitude after her Prismatic World Tour wrapped up.

The Prismatic World Tour was created in support of her fourth studio album “Prism” released in 2013. The tour kicked off in May 2014 in Belfast, Northern Ireland and ended last October 18 in San Jose, Costa Rica with a total of six legs and 151 shows all in all.

The “Thinking of You” singer had huge gaps in between her tours because of her other commitments, particularly with the Super Bowl Halftime Show. During her tour, Perry arranged for a portion of the money generated from ticket sales to go to UNICEF, Autism Speaks, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

In line with her latest world tour, Katy released a concert film through Epix titled “Katy Perry: The Prismatic World.” Last month, a documentary titled “Katy Perry: Making of the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show” was released following her performance.

Recently, the “Teenage Dream” crooner made headlines when she announced her plans to campaign for Hillary Clinton for next year’s presidency. In this time where personalities play a large role on empowerment and decision-making, Katy’s brand on Clinton’s bid makes her run quite reassuring.

It is worth noting that the “Part of Me” singer’s intention to support Hillary suggest that she prefers a female leader who stands for something despite society’s view on women.
