Right after George R.R Martin spilled some beans on the sixth book in ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series, there has been numerous speculations on the plot of ‘Winds of Winter.’ The previous two books took over a year to be completed, and hence fans are hopeful that this one gets done on time.
Winds of Winter will deal with the important question of who sits on the throne of Winterfell. Will it be Jon Snow, Sansa Stark or Rickon Stark? The characters of Sansa Stark and Petyr Baelish have a lot of potential to be explored in detail in Winds of Winter. They have a lot on offer to manipulate what happens in King’s Landing and the Vale.
With George R.R Martin not being very forthcoming about what is in store – claiming that he will let things out only when it is time to do so – fans are actively speculating the plot of Winds of Winter on the internet. Fans believe that Petyr Baelish will now try to get to the throne of Winterfell. He has acquired much wealth and social importance. He now uses his diplomatic shrewdness to bring Winterfell under his control, after the Vale.
Sansa Stark is not as innocent as she appears to be. She will lead Petyr Baelish to his doom after using him for her good. Maybe kill him herself, which is not very likely, given her soft nature. She might turn the other leaders of the Vale against him. She will realise in time that Baelish uses her only as a way to achieve Winterfell.
Martin has let out that Winds of Winter will have two epic battles. This has caused fans to speculate that this might be the much-anticipated battle between Stannis Baratheon and Ramsay Bolton. Stannis Baratheon’s claim for the Iron Throne is going to be there as long as the throne exists, and he doesn’t sit on it. He has been trying to get to it since the death of King Joffrey.
When asked about the paternity of Jon Snow, Martin very smartly avoided the question saying that even though he knows the answer, it was not the right time yet to spill the beans on that issue.
‘Winds of Winter’ is also going to be full of betrayal, death and marriage. Fans are currently speculating about the marriages that might take place. Sansa Stark’s marriage with Lady Anya Waynwood’s ward, Harrold Hardyng might take place. Cersei Lannister might try to get a member of her family into Stannis Baratheon’s. If fans had the chance, they would state that the most anticipated wedding would be the one between Jamie Lannister and Brienne of Tarth.
