While fans of “Man of Steel” have been discussing the various different possibilities for a sequel to the original film very actively, there has been no news on this front and we haven’t really heard anything solid about a possible “Man of Steel 2”. However, it might turn out that the film is already being produced and is coming out relatively soon, although under a different name. If some recent statements are true, then the sequel has been right under our noses this whole time and fans just didn’t realize the nature of the situation.
According to Zack Snyder, “Batman v Superman” is actually a good candidate for a spiritual successor to “Man of Steel”, and the director sees it as a natural continuation of that story. Because of this, fans of the original “Man of Steel” might want to pay close attention to the way the plot is developed in the new film, as it might turn out that it’s the sequel that they’ve been waiting for all this time. The question that remains now for most fans is if that excludes the possibility of a dedicated proper sequel, although we aren’t sure how to interpret Snyder’s statements in this regard.
Snyder did talk about a possible standalone movie about Superman coming out in the future, but he didn’t really give any details with regards to what we can expect from that if it comes out, nor what the current plans are behind the scenes. It did sound like the director himself was interested in the idea though, so hopefully the studio isn’t just going to abandon it in the future. A lot of fans would certainly be interested in seeing Superman’s character get a little more development, but with such a busy schedule surrounding this cinematic universe, we don’t know when such a film could come out.
On the other hand, Batman’s fans have been wondering something along the same lines as well, and there is a lot of confusion in the community over the possibility of seeing a good dedicated Batman film in the near future. Of course many people would be interested in joining that project and the producers should have no trouble finding willing candidates, but it will have to be released with somewhat careful timing to ensure that it doesn’t clash with anything else coming out at the same time.
Zack Snyder has been doing a lot of good for the expansion of the universes of those characters for what it’s worth, and he has added a lot to their backstories and overall personality. The plots under his direction have always been more advanced and dramatic as well, and it’s clear that the director is willing to go far in order to make sure that his productions work well and please even those fans who approach them with higher expectations. And there are certainly lots of those, considering the popularity of the franchises he’s involved with.
Because of the overall high quality of his approach, many fans have been hopeful to see him working on even more installments in the future, and there is a strong possibility that we are indeed going to see Snyder contributing even more to the current projects related to those characters. Whether or not this is going to lead to some more original works or if he’s going to mostly stick to the comic books, we don’t know.
