“Orange Is the New Black” is coming back for a fourth season, and fans are very obviously excited about the way the show could evolve further and how some of its characters could be made even more interesting. We’ve also been hearing various rumors about the production, mostly related to new characters supposedly coming in the new episodes, however some of those rumors have already been shot down by the producers, mostly to the disappointment of some fans.
For example, Caitlyn Jenner was reportedly going to make a cameo appearance in at least one episode of the show, and this immediately generated a lot of discussion online. However, it was subsequently revealed that this isn’t actually happening as Netflix denied the rumors completely.
Many fans believed that rumor too, as it was coming from a seemingly credible source and it sounded plausible enough, but now discussions have taken a different direction and people are now speculating about other possible interactions between characters during the new season. One of the developments that we’re expecting to see in season 3 is the return of Sophia from solitary confinement, and this would make sense in more ways than one.
Not only is it the right time to bring back her character, but the last season of the show also gave the strong implication that the prison is trying to boost its profits, and according to some publications, the most logical way to go about that would be to remove solitary confinement completely and deal away with the system within the prison. Which would obviously mean that Sophia would have to be returned to the regular areas and that could result in some very interesting developments in the plot indeed.
More specifically, fans are expecting a lot of conflict in season 4 as some characters will end up clashing significantly, and on the other hand others might end up discovering that they share more interests and personality traits than they were suspecting. And that could result in some new friendships coming up on the horizon, potentially affecting the overall social infrastructure of the prison throughout the season. That would fall in line with some rumors that the show is going to rearrange the way some of its characters interact, and fans certainly seem interested in seeing how this idea could play out.
Still, we don’t know when we might see the new season – it’s probably still a long way off as Netflix haven’t even set any official release date for it. The most prominent rumors claim that the season should be ready around the middle of 2016, although this is just a prediction and doesn’t necessarily have to be true. It might also be the case that Netflix are looking into a longer production cycle in order to add something even greater to this season, although we don’t know what implications this could have for the development of the plot and the interactions between some characters.
For what it’s worth, Netflix is a network that has a more unusual approach to the production of its shows and they sometimes take risks that other networks would be afraid of attempting. They don’t even follow traditional release schedules for all of their shows and fans sometimes get to see an entire season released all at once, which of course is perfect for those who like to “binge” on their favorite shows and watch entire seasons at a time.
