If it is a musical performance, it is about to start its crescendo leading all the way the ultimate note and a blazing finish. That seems to be the path being taken by the current Season 2 of the American science fiction drama TV series “Extant” when it aired its ninth episode on August 19.
Titled “The Other Side,” episode nine was obviously building something big, which would most likely happen in the remaining four episodes of the TV series including its two-episode season finale slated to air on CBS on September 9.
General Tobias Shepherd, played by David Morrisey, of the Global Security Commission, has unravelled his plans of wiping out the Hybrids, which eventually netted Adhu, the Hybrid son of Molly Woods, played by Halle Berry.
Molly was with Adhu when he met his demise and she was clearly distraught about the situation, despite the fact that she also helped engineer it along with the GSC, notes the Latin Post.
Tobias wanted the Hybrids annihilated because of their seditious actions, but they triggered a virus, in which Molly succumbs to it. But its effect on her brought back her long-forgotten memories and enabled her to remember that things that transpired during and after her solo mission in space.
Plenty of things going on
Episode 9 of “Extant” really showed plenty of things and subplots going on all over the show. There was Julie who is confronted with hard choices even as the remaining Hybrids seek revenge, notes Filmbook.
The episode also featured the return of Molly’s father Quinn, played by multi-awarded actor Louis Gossett Jr., even as Tobias was compelled to act on the virus outbreak.
Molly, on the other hand, took it as an opportunity to investigate the situation further with the help of police officer JD Richter, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
At the end of the onslaught against the Hybrids, there was a hint that one Hybrid Haven survivor will emerge and will look for payback.
Meanwhile, the Humanich is just waiting on the wings when the smoke clears in the event that the humans wipe out the seditious androids that are the Hybrids. While the Humanich is only composed of Lucy at the moment, but in the previous episodes, it can be recalled that Anna instructed Julie to produce more Humanichs, whose hatred for humans is starting to spiral out of control.
Lucy, just like Ethan, the son of Molly by her dead robotics engineer husband John Woods, is a prototype android called Humanich, who is slowly becoming a risk to those around her.
Climactic overtones
Episode 9 of “Extant” has indeed taken some climactic overtones which indicate that it is building something big and that the end or the season finale is just around the corner.
When episodes start wrapping up their storylines, that usually indicates that something big is about to happen, but the people from the TV series and the network simply do not want to spoil it for the fans and viewers.
During the eighth episode of “Extant,” Molly and JD had some intense action. The International Space Exploration Agency (ISEA) astronaut and her cop partner practically raced against time to rescue their children.
Molly tried to save her hybrid son Adhu, played by Henderson Wade, from the raid that the Global Security Commission did on the hybrid compound, while JD attempted to help out his daughter being held captive at the GSC.
The astronaut has found a way to locate Ahdu in a hybrid compound located in the woods. When Molly asked for a sample of Ahdu’s DNA, the boy became reluctant at first. But when her mother explained how important it was for her, Ahdu relented.
Ahdu then proceeded to convince Molly that Hybrids were not dangerous to humans and that they wish to co-exist with them.
