Marvel to Relaunch ‘Iron Man’ Comic to Quench Fan Thirst for Iron Man 4

Given the fact that reports and rumors about “Iron Man 4” have been making the rounds in the internet since last year, Marvel understands how fans desire the fourth installment of the iconic superhero franchise.

However, the studio is also taking note of the fact that if it will immediately work on “Iron Man 4,” it will be under intense pressure to match the box-office success of “Iron Man 3” released in 2013 and anything below its result would really be a disappointment.

“Iron Man 3” is the seventh all-time top grossing film in history with its worldwide box office take of $1.22 billion, an accomplishment that is certainly tough to match or surpass. Marvel would certainly not want to worry about the undue pressure it will cause on the development of “Iron Man 4” when the studio has plenty of things in its plate and has a lot to offer to fans from this year all the way to 2019.

In order to quench fan thirst for “Iron Man 4,” Marvel has decided to relaunch the “Iron Man” comic where the superhero will build a new kind of world, reports Venture Capital Post.

Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez will oversee the relaunching of the “Iron Man” comic which accordingly will still feature Tony Stark in the iron suit. However, there will be some twist as he will have a new supporting cast, a new armor, and new villains to contend with too in the comic.

Stalemate negotiations

Although it seems that negotiations between Marvel Studios and Robert Downey Jr. are in a stalemate for “Iron Man 4,” the actor has commitments with the studio for the next four years which means that he will continue to reprise his role as Tony Stark and don the Iron Man suit in several other upcoming Marvel movies.

What is confirmed at this point among these movies are “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1,” and “Avengers: Infinity War Part 2” which have playdates of 2016, 2018, and 2019 respectively.

That leaves 2017 as the year where Robert Downey Jr. will not have a movie where he shall play Tony Stark and Iron Man.

However, it has been reported that the Spider-Man reboot solo movie will be shown in 2017 and Marvel may capitalize on the popularity of RDJ as Tony Stark and Iron Man and insert him into the movie just to give the refreshed web-slinging superhero a warm welcome to the Marvel cinematic universe and also into the Avengers.

Basing on the hectic schedule of Tony Stark and Iron Man in upcoming Marvel films, it is likely that an “Iron Man 4” movie will come out either in 2019 or 2020, cites Venture Capital Post.

Stepping up its game

On the part of Robert Downey Jr., he is also not in a rush to do “Iron Man 4” in the event that he and Marvel Studios come to financial terms.

He said that Marvel has been stepping up its game when it comes to producing superhero movies and he also appreciates Kevin Feige and the creative minds of the studio for thinking and doing it that way.
