Adult film star Mia Khalifa has urged the violent protesters in Baltimore, Maryland that they should not touch or destroy the city’s iconic Old Bay garage, which is considered a national monument.
Pornhub’s most searched porn star explained that she grew up in Maryland and she took to Twitter on April 27 to tell those protesters involved in the ongoing unrest not to dare touch the city’s important shrine.
Khalifa posted an image of the Old Bay garage on her Twitter account and captioned it by saying that protesters should do whatever they want to Baltimore but they should not dare touch the city’s national monument, notes the UK edition of the International Business Times.
The cause of the unrest
Unrest started happening in Baltimore on April 27 which was the same day as the funeral of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, who died from injuries sustained while in the custody of police authorities.
It is not clear if Mia Khalifa’s tweet was meant as a joke or not but it sure did provoke a strong response from the online community and some of her thousands of followers on Twitter.
Because of the unrest, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has declared a state of emergency and Batimore city mayor Stephanie Rawling-Blake has placed the city under a week-long 10 pm to 5 am curfew in a serious bid to curtail the violence level of protesters.
One of her followers named Brandon #YTN supported Mia Khalifa’s tweet by saying that in addition to preserving the Old Bay garage as espoused by the porn star, protesters should not touch the camden yards or the M&T Bank stadium either.
“Keeping Up with the Kardashians” reality star Khloe Kardashian also urged fans through Twitter to pray for Baltimore saying that violence is not the answer to the issue involving Freddie Gray.
Musician John Legend also made sure to inform his fans about what was happening in the streets of Baltimore by tweeting an article about the protests, citing that non-violence as compliance in Baltimore.
Messages of support and peace
Khalifa, who has caused a major controversy in the Middle East following her debut in the adult film industry in October last year, is one of the more popular celebrities who shared their thoughts on social media about the Freddie Gray issue in Baltimore, all expressing their messages of support, caution, and peace.
Meanwhile, David Simon, who is the creator of “The Wire” TV series based on Baltimore Police Department shot in and around the city, criticized the riots and branded the violence as selfishness on the part of the protesters.
He explained in his blog titled “The Audacity of Despair” that the anger, the selfishness, and the brutality of those claiming the right to violence in Freddy Gray’s name need to stop. He said that if protesters can’t seek redress and demand reform without a brick in their hands, then they risk losing the importance of the moment for the people of Baltimore.
