In a strange, but seemingly popular shift, there are more television shows that are being released an entire season at a time and only via streaming applications like Netflix. That is true for one of the most popular series, “House of Cards”. The show started on Netflix a few years ago and when the entire season was released at one time, Netflix blew open a new door that is likely to shape the television landscape forever.
The show was brand new back in 2013 and it starred big name movie star, Kevin Spacey. It was one of the first times that a show was released like this and that it had such a well known star playing the lead. The show idea is not original, however. House Of Cards was started in the United Kingdom as a mini-series and is also based on the novel by Michael Dobbs. The first season was a full thirteen episodes and premiered on Netflix on February 1st.
Just one year later, the second season started and it only took 10 days for Netflix to agree to a third season and lock it in. Another year later, the third season premiered and the show was labeled a major hit, with lead actor, Kevin Spacey along for the entire ride. According to Spacey, there is plenty of drama to be had in the show and it could run as long as 12 seasons on Netflix. If that is the case, it would be one of the longest running shows that was released an entire season at a time.
Fans of the show saw another season coming, easily. According to reports, the second season ended with a few things left unfinished, while the third season was left open like a two part movie. it was just a matter of when it would show up for a fourth season. According to reports, the entire fourth season will be released in 2016, presumably around the same time as the presidential election.
The first two seasons of the show were planned even before the first day of filming took place and while the third was missing a second part, it was just as popular as the two seasons before it. Some fans have been expression concerns that the show will be moved into something more political, rather than something more murderous. The problem with shows like this is that you are left waiting until the first episode of the next season.
