Abigail Spencer is currently enjoying a great deal of popularity from her role on “Rectify”, but it’s pretty clear that the actress is motivated to achieve a lot more than that, and she’s just getting started. Recently, it’s been announced that she would be joining the cast of “True Detective” for the show’s second season, while she’s also going to star in “Wrong Number”, for which she’s also currently fine-tuning the script.
Her current work on “Rectify” has been received very positively by the majority of critics. The show revolves around a person wrongly convicted and sentenced to several decades in prison, and subsequently released after new DNA evidence comes to light. In the show, Spencer plays the part of his sister, Amanda, and the show has been moving along very nicely throughout its first and second season, winning many fans and establishing a solid following.
It’s not clear when “Rectify” will be back for its third season, although the new episodes were confirmed back in August, so it’s probably safe to assume that filming has either already started at some point recently, or is about to start shortly.
Meanwhile, in “True Detective”, Abigail Spencer will be playing as Alicia, who has recently been the victim of a sexual crime, and will have a recurring role on the show as a police informant. Vince Vaughn and his character Frank Semyon have been the main focal point of the second season, as the story revolves around him for the most part. The cast also includes Colin Farrell, playing the role of the corrupt police detective Ray Velcoro.
Last but not least, we also have Spencer working on “Wrong Number”, her own movie project, which has been coming for a long time now, but it finally seems to be becoming a reality. It’s known that the film, which will star Spencer herself, will be a romantic comedy – although knowing the actress, it’s probably safe to assume that she’ll have a more original take on the traditional premise, and won’t deliver the typical aimless script that this genre normally gets.
Rumors about the film include James Franco as a producer, and various actors in the cast, including Andrew Leeds, Camille Chen and more. So far, “Wrong Number” is shaping up very interestingly, and it looks like it has all the potential to be a successful release, whenever Spencer is ready with her work on it. The romantic comedy genre did get a bit overdone a few years ago, but for what it’s worth, its popularity has been somewhat low lately and now could be a very good time to release a film like that, especially a well-made one.
