The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace marks the first foray of the British luxury automaker into the production of sporty crossover SUV and it is definitely not going to be the last.
The vehicle debuted in September during the Frankfurt International Auto Show and it surely thrilled motoring fans and enthusiasts to know that Jaguar Land Rover has finally decided to venture into the specialized and very competitive segment of crossover SUV.
Jaguar Land Rover seeks to position the 2017 F-Pace among the SUVs in the US while the Jaguar XE sedan, which it also showcased during the Frankfurt auto event, is designed to take on the BMW 3 Series and the Audi 4 both in Europe and the US.
With its handsome styling and impressive engineering, the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace is expected to take the market by storm when it arrives in the spring of next year as a 2017 model, describes the Motor Authority.
Sophisticated chassis technology
Reports have it that Jaguar Land Rover is making use of a pretty sophisticated chassis technology in the development of the 2017 F-Pace and its XE sedan. The British carmaker has actually used the same technology in the development of its XF model.
Accordingly, the 2017 F-Pace will feature an aluminum-intensive construction known as Jaguar’s Lightweight Aluminum Architecture which means that the crossover SUV will be very lightweight but rigid.
The same construction will make the SUV handle brilliantly like no other vehicle in its segment. In fact, the curb weight of the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace will approximately be 4,000 pounds, which is quite light for an SUV.
Jaguar Land Rover also describes its 2017 F-Pace as an all-weather sports car that also happens to comfortably fit five people and their belongings.
The interior of the five-seat cabin looks very elegant although the details are sparse. The infotainment console features touchscreens and digital displays.
Lofty goals for the crossover
The British luxury automaker has lofty goals for its 2017 Jaguar F-Pace, anchored on its 15,000 annual sales in the US in 2014, notes Car and Driver.
Jaguar Land Rover is pinning its hopes on the 2017 F-Pace and the 2017 XE sedan to make its turnaround in the US market and elsewhere, which motoring experts believe is an incredibly risky move notwithstanding that the worldwide economy is still reeling a bit while Britain’s automotive industry is still on its heels.
The confidence of the British carmaker is also validated by reports that the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace is to be the first of three new SUVs that Jaguar Land Rover is planning to roll out one after the other. However, at the moment, only the 2017 F-Pace is pretty much confirmed while the two others are technically in the drawing boards still.
The Jaguar F-Pace would eventually spawn two new models including a Range Rover Evoque-sized SUV called the E-Pace and a large SUV called the J-Pace, which shall also be using Range Rover underpinnings.
Apparently Jaguar Land Rover will be positioning the two upcoming SUVs as mere support to the F-Pace as the British carmaker believes that the latter is to be its best-selling model while the two spawned variants would help the company keep its dominance in the evergreen UK market for SUVs.
The Jaguar E-Pace will reportedly come cheaper than the F-Pace and that it will have a chassis that underpins the new Discovery, which is based on the Freelander. According to the British carmaker, the E-Pace will have premium interiors and more road-based setup to make it a fun-to-drive luxury car, the way Jaguar Land Rover has become famous for.
The Jaguar J-Pace is said to be the more exciting of the two spawned models of the F-Pace. It will be making use of the high-tech aluminum platform that was developed for the current Range Rover. The SUV would come out relatively light and will have great fuel economy to help Jaguar deliver a truly rewarding on-road driving experience.
