Apple’s MacBook Air is a peculiar line with its own unique set of features, and Apple have been putting a lot of effort into promoting the positive impact of this line on everyday productivity and portability. At the same time, critics and fans alike have had some negative remarks about the overall place of the devices on the market, with various people claiming that Apple are better off focusing on the more powerful devices in their line-up instead.
According to the most recent rumors, the company is apparently planning to unveil the new MacBook Air in 2016, along with several other new devices. It’s not quite clear if they have multiple MacBook Air models lined up or if this is about something else, but it does sound like Apple are trying to expand their presence on the market.
One thing that sounds a bit strange in all these claims is the suggestion that Apple might be doing away with the core ideas of the Air line, and are instead going to bring it closer to their MacBook Pro models. This sounds strange on one hand, but on the other it could also make sense when one considers the current state of the market. People seem more interested in powerful devices nowadays and some of the recent changes to the design of the MacBook Air drew some criticism and even borderline ridicule from the community.
Because of this, the idea that the next Air could compromise the lightweight factor a bit while at the same time improving the performance might not be that outrageous. If it turns out to be true, then it obviously means that Apple are going to revise their strategy with the MacBook Air, and it could even indicate that they are looking to completely drop the uniqueness of the line in favor of a more advanced experience.
This could also correlate with certain other rumors that we have heard about Apple in general, which claimed that the company was going to cut out the iPod from their line of products as they are focusing on their phones and tablets instead. This obviously didn’t happen during this year, but the rumor kept lingering in the air since then and it’s not entirely clear if it could actually turn out to be true in 2016.
There are also rumors claiming that Apple are not actually going to make the new MacBook Air heavier but will preserve the line’s approach to physical design. There are enough voices on both sides of the equation that it’s hard to figure out where the truth is and what the company really is planning. And of course, as is typical with Apple, they themselves have been very quiet about their developments and we have no idea what they could actually be planning. Whenever they are ready to actually speak about the issue in public, it will be to make the official announcement and talk about specific details.
It’s hard to know what to make of this situation right now, and the sheer volume of rumors is making it even more difficult to navigate the discussions. If Apple really are planning to revise the Air line and introduce serious changes to these devices, this could resonate through the market for quite a long time. It could even set some new trends for other developers, something which doesn’t happen rarely when it comes to Apple. Even their more controversial ideas can sometimes have interesting results.
