NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) contender Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors is a big Manny Pacquiao fan and he is obviously rooting for the Filipino boxing icon come his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
To show his support for the Pacman, Curry signed one his Warriors home jerseys and sends it as a pre-fight gift to the eight division world champion, details Yahoo! News.
The Golden State Warriors Instagram account even posted a video of Steph doing the autograph signing on his No. 30 jersey. Although the clip did not exactly show what he wrote other than his signature, it was meant to be given as a gift to the Filipino boxer.
A basketball buff
Everyone knows that Manny Pacquiao is a basketball buff. In the Philippines, he is a playing-coach for the professional basketball team Kia Carnival in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), Asia’s first professional basketball league.
He has been using basketball scrimmages as part of his training to condition his body for his mega-fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
At some point, Pacquiao has managed to also play basketball for fun at the Golden State Warriors’ home floor. Like many Filipino basketball enthusiasts, Pacquiao is also a fan of the hot-shooting Stephen Curry, the NBA All-Star point guard of the Warriors, which is currently perched on top of the NBA standings and is likely heading to the playoffs as the overall top seed.
The gift jersey would surely be appreciated by Manny Pacquiao considering how he loves playing basketball and how it was personally given by Stephen Curry.
Rousey is for Pacquiao too?
The high-profile sports celebrities that have been expressing their support to Manny Pacquiao continue to increase as the mega-bout draws near.
In addition to Stephen Curry, it seems that UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is also supporting the Pacman in his ring date with Money Mayweather.
Although Rousey did not specifically state that she is rooting for Pacquiao, her fight advices to the Pacman and how to go about with his fight against Floyd Jr. interestingly appear that she wants the Filipino boxer to win the contest.
Rousey cautioned Pacquiao against being too aggressive with a defensive and counter-punching genius like Floyd Mayweather Jr. But she believes, like many other sports personalities before her, that the Pacman is going to give Floyd Jr. an extremely hard time given the former’s speed and unrelenting pressure.
The undefeated UFC women’s bantamweight champion says that Pacquiao will have a good chance if he uses his quickness and does not jump in the entire time to crowd Mayweather with his punches.
